Hi all. First- great site! Its been cool looking through some of the photos and getting inspired! There is a lot of talent here and I'm hoping to learn a few things and put out some good work.

So I haven't actually built a model in years and I had basically no patience for it when I was younger. I was always in a rush and never got good results. The internet wasn't around and I didn't have any info to improve. No longer the case.

I have a two year old son and I bought a couple of Hobby Lobby prebuilt models to hang in his room, which sparked some interest. There is good possibility that I will be going on a year long assignment and I will have a lot of time to myself so I figured I could use the time to learn a new craft and build some models for his room. I'm primarily interested in aircraft.
I want to do it right and I know I'll need an airbrush and compressor, which is cool because I have always been interested in learning that too.

I hope that it sticks and turns into a hobby with my son when he gets older. I can spend up to $500 so I should be able to get most anything I need to get started. I'd like to eventually get into flying RC planes with him as well. Wish me luck!

Welcome SMA!

Sounds like You are the right path. This is a good place to learn. And ask all the question You want, someone will have an answer.

Sorry to hear you'll have to be leaving your son.
But I do hope you can get him into the hobby along with yourself

Yeah, it isn't as bad as it sounds. I work for a great company and they will fly me home every weekend. Most likely I will be home on non work days. On work days I will still have 3-4 hours a day to myself so there will be plenty of time for modeling. All in all, it is a great opportunity and will more than pay for private schooling for my son and my daughter who starts kindergarten tomorrow!

Thanks for the welcome. I've spent the morning looking at WWII aircraft on Wikipedia and youtube. I may start with a P-40 Warhawk when the time comes to start a project.
