New Years Modeling Resolutions.

I'm making a couple again that I made back in 2008 and followed, more or less, for much of that year. Just modifying them a little from back then:

1) I'm not buying any more kits, but working from the stash. I have enough kits for now. In 2008, I made it till late July, till I broke that one. I think I can do it.

2) I'm going to finish some of my in-progress builds that have gotten stuck and are sitting. They include my Pennsylvania and Essex in 1/700, my Red Baron hot rod, and a pair of Monogram P-36's. In contrast to how I made that resolution in 2008, I am not swearing off starting other kits, but I will kick-start those and finish them.

3) I want to learn more about using my airbrush. I think I have a good basic level of skill, so now it's time to kick it up a notch. Italian smoke rings in 1/72, anyone?

I finished 12 builds in 2012, but started 22 (+ a few that linger from before 2012). I think my New Years resolution is to finish up at least some of that WiP (especially that CC130 and my Albatros DII). Problem is I get stuck, and then it's often mentally easier just to start something new. Looks like dealing with shelf queens are the common resolution.

Everything else I look at as being goals for 2013. For 2013, I'd like to;

1. Build a vehicle or an armor kit, I've got to find something off the beaten path... Suggestions?
2. Paint a figure. I'm really daunted by this one but after seeing Spuds fantastic first figure, I'm itching to give it a try.
3. Do a resin conversion, a REAL resin conversion. Complete with cutting off and then excessively replacing huge pieces of the kit.
4. Ride my bike more than I did in 2012. 40 + Beer = spare tire. Nuff said.
5. NMF (I have a F-107A that is screaming for it).

I hear ya, Jason! I ride, too, and my training consists of 20-25 miles in the evening, followed by 2 glasses of Franziskaner :D I do find that I burn it off in the course of the summer, I can tell by the holes in my belt.

If I may offer a tip for motivation, I'd find a cause to ride for. For example, I ride each fall in a tour to raise funds for multiple sclerosis research and treatment, and I ride with a group of friends as a team. I've been doing that ride for 10 years, and I found that that keeps me motivated to get out on the road when I get home every day. Before I joined the tour, I'd ride, but as often as not, if I didn't feel like going, I'd blow it off.

i would like to just get some of these partially started kits done, 2 f-16s the stardestroyer and this space pod. I really am trying so hard not to get one of the new 1/350 TOS enterprises, so I will reward myself with that when I get those kits done. ;D

I'd love to build 12 pieces this year. One per month. That means limiting the scope of my projects. Not realistic for me...8-10 would be nice.

Here's what I have in mind for 2013.

Finish Star Wars RatRod
Build another pickup truck ratrod
A Ma.K. or two
A Zombie Hunter Van
2 shiny cars (Fireird / Nova)
A helicopter
Paint my T72 tank
Finish another scifi project (a kitbash I started a while back)
A dio using some 1/48 horses and figures (early 1900s style)....model them discovering a crashed alien ship.
....maybe the MPC Falcon sometime???

That sounds mighty cool already. I really hope You would do this idea in plastic, Scott, as I would very much love to see it.

Me too Sol. Might try it sooner than later...but might change the scale to 144...just so it can be a smaller piece but more epic lookin.

Thats cool , something I have planned this year is an SBS on horses , something that is not really looked at in most places ;)

Chris.

My first resolution is to finish more kits than I start, that is finishing all the kits I start this year, plus a few shelf queens too. I would also like to build more kits than I purchase or aquire. I would also like to try my hand at a diorama.

What does NMF mean?

Natural Metal Finish - I've never tried out Alclads and the buffable Metalizer paints before. Over the next year I would like to give them a try - maybe when the weathers nice, so I can paint outside.

Sounds like a "Firefly" subject, too.

That will be a challenge, though. Do you have any makers in mind? There are a lot available in 1/32 - 54mm and 1/72, but I don't know of any in 1/48.

Not to buy anymore models, just try and finish up the ones I have started first. So that automatically puts my P-38J Lightning on the bench as well as my old MPC Millennium Falcon that has no parts on it's sprues. Rob from Acreation happened to have a set of the Blue Moon resin sidewall sets for sale so I pounced on them a few months back. So now I'm all go on that.
Those two builds might be it for the year for me. I have the 1/48 Kinetic Prowler and all it's after market goodness sitting in the on deck circle. Also have the Republic Star Destroyer that I plan to light up like a Christmas tree and though I like Trek I have the 1/1400 Enterprise E that Richard Long recommended to me how to light the windows without drilling the holes for them.
I might pick up some of the Vallejo Air paints to see how those shoot through the AB since their ready to go out of the bottle. Might get me some more AK products as well, including a few more DVD's on weathering. Maybe their weathering magazines to boot. I think that's it for 2013. All that and troll the SMA boards. What more can a 48 yr. old ask for that I can't post on these forums?

I'm going to start my Secret Santa build and stay with it until it's DONE! Too many trays full of partially completed kits cluttering up my workbench.

Unlike what all you others are saying, I guess I should make my new years resolution to build up my stash ha ha ha

Reduce my Kit Stash. Many of these I have started. The black P indicated the model has had portions pre-painted, lower hull fronts and backs of road wheels. Basically anything that is difficult to paint after the lower hull / suspenssion goes together.

Firstly, i want to wish everyone a very happy and safe 2013 and a great year of building also. ;D

This year i plan to keep plodding along with The Nylon Gag MK.1.
I have a few ideas for my next projects in mind but i know if i start something else i will loose focus on TNG MK.1 & as its a scratch build with no instructions and my limited brain capacity i can't do more than one thing at a time. I get overwhelmed sometimes with all the parts that i have to bring together at the right time.

Looking forward to seeing some of the projects mention in this thread. ;D

Don't worry, eventually it'll build it's self up and you be making the same resolution as everyone else.
