And now I've done a layer of white (tamiya flat white). It's a bit uneven due to some (now solved) problems with my airbrush. I also realised that there were still some light leaks from various seams in the fuselage. I wanted to sort that out but didn't want to go back to using reveal plasto putty over the top of the paint layer so i used some white acrylic paint from a tube (really thick stuff) to plug those gaps instead.
I think it's worked really well. Once i applied it and filled the gaps, i used a wet brush to remove the excess and smooth it out. I'll have to give it another coat of tamiya white to hide it (the tube paint is a slightly different shade of white) but i was gonna do that anyway.
The paint-as-filler trick seems to have worked. I've included some pictures of it. Hmm. Guess I'll have to see what happens when it's all dry.
Btw, does anyone have any tips for getting a really smooth layer of paint? Mine seems to come out very slightly grainy. I've got some klear/multi-surface wax - would that smooth things out if i gave the model a coat of it?
Thanks all!
