Osprey book on Amazon for Corsair builds

I am starting Tamiya's 1/32 Corsair kit. Saw this on Amazon, has anybody used it and thought it was worth having during a Corsair build?

I have several Osprey books, and I don't regret buying any of them... although only one on Aircraft, BF 109 Aces of North Africa and the Mediterranean (of course).
If you have a good monitor near the bench, the Kindle versions (have many of those too) if available, are usually much less expensive. And you get it right away, and you can zoom in on illustrations!

Brett Green is very good. Along with previews and builds that he does, he maintains the Hyperscale forum (and probably others, that I haven't really used). He gets first issues from makers for reviews, and build reviews, etc. So I would buy any reference he has written, just on his name.
Not every reference will be like that, naturally, but in this case, I would say that it's worth having.

I wanted to comment on a related thing - Tamiya's kit is great, has lots of detailed color photos of some museum's corsair interior, engine, etc..

What I find strange is that the photos sometimes contradict the Tamiya colors they tell you to use in several cases. Case in point: the seatbelts Tamiya says paint all deck tan, while the photos show more of a khaki color for the shoulder belts and just tan for the lap belts. They aren't trying to make life easier for us in other cases, where they have you painting part of a very small hidden piece a different color, so that does not explain it. Another example: They show the seat all interior green, but in the photos they provide, part of the seat looks more like khaki fabric. I a not yet to the stage of modeling where I am trying to exactly match historic photos, but still...

Also, jumping around topics here, but AK Interactives paint markers, I just got full set, are great in general, but their "deck tan" is more of a light grey, vs Tamiya's XF which looks more like a light tan.

With museum exhibits you always have to ask yourself: "Is this the colour it also had when in service?" I know little about Corsairs (or aircraft details in general) but for example, I wouldn't think it unlikely that the seat belts on a museum plane might have been replaced, or have become discoloured over time. Or, of course, that the museum's colours are correct and the kit manufacturer recommends the wrong colour for it.

AK vs Tamiya's XF

Anybody else use the Android App 'paintRack'?
It has a built colour comparison analyzer so you can supposedly find the nearest colour in other brands of a particular colour.
It also lets you catalogue the paints in your rack by scanning the bar codes, as well as many other features, like using the phone's camera to scan colour samples and suggest the nearest match in a wide range of brands.
I refer to it at my LHS, when standing in front of the mostly never complete stock of paint displayed, to help me in my selection process...

Very true. We want always be wary of using restorations as references. Not to avoid them, necessarily, but always bear in mind the restoration process, that the restorers likely made their own choices, compromises, when they set about restoring the object.
