I'm in the process of building the Tamiya McLaren Senna and would like to paint clear green over the black base coat. The end results I'm looking to achieve is to simulate the appearance of a thin color coat over carbon fiber. I have 2 questions, 1. The black base coat came out really nice but has 2 minor issues that should sand out okay but I'm not sure if the dullness of the sanded area will show through the green topcoat. Obviously, I can't polish the base coat or the topcoat won't adhere, 2. If the base coat is let to dry for a sufficient amount of time and is lacquer will it interact ok with the topcoat of acrylic clear green? I know this may seem like a dumb question for more experienced modelers but I'm still trying to learn different techniques. Any input would be appreciated, Thank you.

A difference in the sheen in the base will definitely telegraph thru .

" I can't polish the base coat or the topcoat won't adhere, "
Not true .

The transparent acrylic will have no deleterious effect on the lacquer .

Thanks for replying Jim62, appreciate it.

I agree with what's been said but have you done a test first? You may not get the effect you're after as the black base will likely absorb any reflection back through the clear green.

Thanks for the feedback, guys. I haven't done a test yet as I'm working on cleaning up the black base still. If I don't get the effect I'm hoping for I'll strip off all the paint and come up with another game plan, it surely won't be the first time.
