I thought I'd bump this article seeing as folks are entering their finals for the 2013 Big Spring Contest.

As was said in the other thread you started. You use a white, or light colored background for dark colored vehicles, and a darker colored background for light colored vehicles, all so the colors and detail doesn't get washed out.
