Project Zero

No worries buddy ;) yer welcome , you know Fairy power spray is good and fast at removing paint , means you dont need to sand just wash and go ;)

Chris.

Looks good to me.

If I remember correctly the original Tamiya Zero kits called for metallic blue in the cockpits. I still have the bottle of Tamiya paint I purchased for that reason back in the 1980's! :p

- Thanks for the tip Chris, it should prove useful as i have to strip the paint from the droptank....im not really happy with the finish

- Shutterace, also remenber in a issue of Tamiya Model Magazine around the same time they realeased their 1/32 offering of this kit that they had the interior the same metailc blue

Just let the part sit in Fairy powerspray for about half an hour ,then wash off . It wont harm the plastic or glue ;)

Chris.

Another Progress Update

After removing the excess oil from the panel lines with a peice of kitchen roll dampened in white spirts, i gave the entrie model a couple of coats of satin varnish to seal the zero before it was time to add the decals. I added the engine cover at this point too, i painted it black gloss seperatly.

Airfix supplies us with markings for one aircraft for the Pearl Habour strike force, the small decal sheet seems quite nice and well see how it comforms tot he shape of plane.

P1100133.jpg

For dealing with the decalling i use a few basic tools to make life easier for myself. first i cleaned the table of clutter and put away my chair (i focus that bit better while standing ;))

P1100107.jpg

decalling has always been a hit and miss thing with me, some builds go very well.......others not so well
I so took my time on this.......three hours of standing left me with this ;D:

Cheers chirs, the micro sol really made the decs conformed to the lines of the model, i added a few coats of varnish to stop silvering, as for the wingtip, Airfix gives the option of having the wingtip folded and thats what im going for LOL

Thanks Eastrock, at first was kinda going a real flat shinny finish to show off the Zero's finelines, but im really liking how the weathering turned.........it gives the impression that it has flown through a lot of oil smoke of burning battleships.......thats kinda the imagine i get from looking at it

cheers for your support mate :)

not too much to go on before this little gem is good for the display carbinet ;D

cheers

Howdie Gents :)

A quick update to share ;D

been bringing all the smaller subassemblies together on the model, i added the central drop tank. This caused me a spot of bother during the painting process, few mishaps resulting with me having sand and repaint the tank a few times

P1100040.jpg

but much to my relief i got a nice smooth coat the third time around :p

next to go on: the spinner and landing gear

see you then

- Eastrock. thanks for the kind words mate, ya the drop tank is one of those iconic imagines of the Zero i think :)

Hy Chris,

at first i was going for a new looking aircraft, with a few scratches and the like, but i might add a little wear around the engine cowling and leading edges of the wing

cheers mate

Hi all,

been adding the last details to the Zero over the last few evenings before i take the final shoot of the finished article.

A added something i was nervous about trying but so happy when it worked and added so much to the model :) I deceided to take the plunge and try adding an aerial made from strecthed spure

P1100142.jpg

the pilot tube in the kit is a rather basic, so i replaced the thinner rod with a similar lenght of strechted spure, also at this point of the build i added the folded wing tip

thats all for now gents

cheers
