Radial BF109

Was just surfing the net and found some stuff about a radial bf109 they built and played around with from 1938 tom41. The article said they think it was to see how it would perform to give them another option for engines as radials are cheaper and easier to make and maintain. I'm thinking I'd like to try a conversion, but need some advice, I need and engine and cowling would it be ideal to use a b17 or maybe one of my Japanese single engine bombers. Appreciate any pointers thanks.

The Bf-109X has a profile similar to one of the Japanese fighters, the Shiden, maybe? It strikes my eye as similar, with the radial and the cut-down turtledeck. Or the HayabusaOscar?
