Revell Eta-2 Actis starfighter

As it is now after polishing with toothpaste, if you wet the area, does it appear clear? If it does, I would give it a coat of gloss lacquer

Hi Jaitea,

No, it's still pretty foggy even if I wet it. It's better than it was though. Do you think having another go with toothpaste will help?

Thanks for the advice!

That figure looks really good for the scale.
Lighting looks great.

As to the canopy, try sanding it with finer grits of sandpaper, then hitting it with a coat of Future

I cleaned up a canopy once, it wasn't as bad as yours, but I did get it done. I started by using finer and finer grades of sand paper. The last grade I used was 15000 grit and then I dipped it in future. It worked pretty well.

Does this kind of trick work with broken canopy ? I glued the parts, but obviously it's no more transparent. To give it a clear look again does the toothpaste (or Tamiya compound) work for that matter ?

Well, here's the canopy after a bit of sanding and polishing. I haven't got any really fine sandpaper but I'm planning to get some this week. Then I'll have another go to see if i can get it any clearer.

and on the kit:

It's still not exactly great (though it looks much worse in these photos than it does in real life) but I'll have another go at it later in the week.

Thanks for all your help guys - i really appreciate it!

Just to keep up to date, I've also done the primer coat and preshading:

The first coat (Tamiya sky grey):

And the markings on the underside (Tamiya purple)

For the purple markings I used humbrol maskol to get a chipped effect. It's turned out a bit over the top I think so I'll reduce the effect on the top.

It's amazing how much better the model looks with some preshading. No longer looks like a toy.

Comments/crits are very welcome!

(p.s. i finally got a photobucket account!)

(photobucket is hard to "control" but once you are used to it, it's a good way to post pictures :) )

Great job !

The transparent purple on the cockpit, was it done with a mic of clear blue and clear red ?

Thanks Youli!

Actually, the purple on the cockpit is just the Humbrol Maskol. It dries as a semi-transparent rubbery gel which you can then peel away once you've painted over it. By sheer coincidence it is almost exactly the same colour as the purple I'm using for the starfighter's markings!

Looks kinda cool though, doesn't it? I'm sure Mace Windu would approve. Maybe I'll leave some on there when I finish. Comes off rather easily though...
