And the beginnings of a display base made out of a cheap photo frame and a bit of card:

Sorry to point that out but... The reversed wings and engines, is that intentionnal ? :D

Hahaha oops, no I just put them together to illustrate scale... Didn't even notice they're back to front! What an eeejit. ::)

I can assure you that they'll be glued into the correct positions when it's finished!

Ok, here's a question for you all: What colour should the x-wing be? A the moment it's a lightish grey but looking at some pics of models and some screenshots makes me think this might be wrong. Some look a creamy colour, others look white but weathered and some look grey. The ships in a new hope appear grey, for example, but other model builders have painted theirs cream or even white.

What do you reckon?

In fact they all came in light colors, grey or even white BUT they are all made from various parts, old parts, so it's not even, a panel should be light grey, another cream, another one like it was never used... Same for the markings.

It all depends on what squadron you wanna show. Every body know the Red one because of the Battle of Tantive IV, and the Death Star defeated.

But you can consider that there could be other colors, green, blue, yellow, orange, purple and so on.

Thanks for the help guys! I want to model one of the ships from the first death star assault so i'll probably go with Red 5 (surprise surprise...). I'm going to make the base coat much lighter and take it from there. Might even try scribing some light panel lines because the ones that come with the kit aren't very specific or accurate. We'll see.

Thanks as always!

Fantastic work , It's great to see these little kits getting some love and attention . They get a pretty rough ride from some modellers , but some of them build into pretty good , albeit small models .

Hello,

Due to life in general, it's been quite a long time since I last did any modelling but I'm back into it now!

I've been making progress over the last few days with my Death Star display base and was wondering if anyone has any detailing suggestions. I'm fairly pleased with it at the moment but it looks a bit... plain. I can't figure out what to do with it next in terms of adding further detail and weathering. Any ideas?

Thanks all!

It's looking great so far , I'd just find some greeblies ( maybe from a battleship-type kit ) and add a few here and there to add a little depth . At this scale you shouldn't need to overdo it . Great build , keep it up . ;)

Thanks Thundergod, that' sam great idea. I'll see if I can find some greeblies, though I don't have many 'spare' kits...

Any ideas about weathering, anyone?

I think you won't need to go overboard with weathering on the Death Star surface. Being in strictly space bound it probably hasn't accumulated much grime/rust. The Tie Fighters are pretty clean with little or no weathering.

I think it looks great as is painting wise.

As far as details, maybe a few vent looking things, some more rods/conduits/wires running across the surface connecting to a few places

Hi all,

Thanks for all the great comments! This has been the slowest project ever but I'm now calling it done. I want to move on to bigger and better things (namely a fully lit Battlestar Galactica...).

The base isn't the greatest but I think it does suggest 'Death Star' a least a little bit!

Anyhoo, here are some pics

I'm not massively happy with the base (my scratch-building skills need a bit of work!) but I'm pretty pleased with the xwing itself. Not a bad little kit for £6 - all it needed was a little bit of TLC.

If anyone has any other suggestions for improvements, I'd still like to hear them. Might still come back to it later if there' something I can do to improve it.

Anyway, hope you like it!

Looks really good . Bear in mind , at this scale not a lot of detail would be visible , especially if the ship is travelling at speed ! Your X-Wing is excellent and I'm tempted to dig out mine and have a go at something similar ( I've got a few of them , as my local "Smyths" was selling them for £2.99 ). ;)
