Show us your mancave(s)!

Ian your mancave is looking good.
You do have a fire extinguisher on hand, right?

Will I be needing one?
Maybe.
Maybe not.
But think about this for just one minute.
You're dealing with flammable materials.
You are storing flammable materials in this room.
You are using a home made extractor for a paint booth.
The paint booth is in the same room where you have all the flammable materials.
The room is in your house.
Accidents can and do happen.
Do you want to take that chance?

Think of, what I like to call, the condom principle:
I'd rather have one and not need it, than need it and not have one.

Get one.
:)

I second BlackSheep here. You probably wont need it, but better safe than sorry. We have a fire extinguisher in the kitchen which is only two steps from the mancave.

You make a convincing argument! I shall get one today from my local hardware store.

Thanks man!

Now that I've actually begun modeling it's a complete mess, with stuff strewn everywhere. Reworking the spray booth to vent better by installing a 4" pipe to the outside, with a combination of dryer ductwork and a dust removal system. I didn't fancy having the window open to the outside Vermont winter temps of 20 degrees F (-7 C).

Cool, a fellow Vermonter!

Ya know this is a very good comment. A fire extinguisher is something that should be a mandated scale modeling tool in everyone's work area. Never know when you could need it. Speaking of which, I didn't have one in my work area but being I raced go karts for mega years and it was mandatory that we had a small extinguisher on the grid with us every race we raced in Ill just simply transfer the one from the race room into the man cave. Thanks for bringing this to our attention. Safety ALWAYS!!!!!!

I'm always adding stuff to the man cave. Today I built a quick paint shelf. I used a pre cut 2'x4' piece of peg board and four 1/2" x 1"x 8' pieces of pine. I should have added one or two more shelves. The bottom shelves will soon be full of Mr. Color.

This freed up a bunch of storage space. Here are a few before shots. I had some shelves on the side of the spray booth and the rest went into a plastic organizer.

Rearranged a little this weekend, and built a second table the same height as my first, instead of having the Craftsman bench as the painting area. Makes it easier to stay in one chair and swing between the two.

I also chopped down my homemade spray booth and it's now much more manageable. The final touch will be to add a dedicated exhaust for the fumes.

Dedicated exhaust finished!

Used some dust extraction parts to make the funnel. It's still a little DIY, but the exhaust is always useful no matter what fan/spray booth setup I use.

That's some dedication. I'd wrap that piping with some foil backed insulation to further insulate it. Cold sneaks in EVERYWHERE

Well it was actually a better solution than having the window open, but then blocking it with foam core or similar. And I had all the house pics of when we built it so could figure out the easiest way to run the pipe. It also looks a lot cleaner.

Agreed :) I'm setting up a dedicated spray area once I move back north in June. The fumes even from Tamiya stinks up my whole place now as it is.
