Tamiya colors

This is a topic both specific question and general comment on Tamiya paints. First, in general, why do they have so many colors, including some so close to each other, but fail to have US inteterior green and want you to custom mix two colors. And the result does not even look right. Compared to some colors they do have that are almost only ever needed for tiny bits (like clear anything), you can go thru a lot of interior yellow.

2nd, specifically, I am working on a 1/32nd scale Corsair. For main color it lists their AS spray can stuff , an US Navy Blue. But they do not carry that in XF jars nor do they have a custom XF mix for it in the instructions. I bought the XF-type "sea blue", but it is too dark. I bought the X-type "royal blue" , but it is too shiny.

I want to be able to brush paint some small parts, and I would prefer to air brush on an acrylic versus the much smellier AS product.

What would you use?

Oh and I don't like Vallejo model air.

My LHS store had one small can of Tamiya AS "US navy blue" left and I bought it, but it is pretty small and I cannot get one shipped here to Alaska.

Would hate to run out of the spray can stuff mid way.

You are on the right track with the see blue just add some xf2

Try that for interior green. Let me know

I use Tamiya XF-71 Cockpit Green. It is very close to interior green.
I would also get the AS-8 Navy Blue rattle can and decant it into a jar then AB it. Just MHO

Thanks, I had not seen XF-71. Our LHS has not carried it but they are out of a lot of stuff. Will see if Amazon carries it, although I have been paying $6 with $8 Shipping for a mini 10ml jar of Tamiya, even with Prime membership :-(

Got down using my Testors enamel interior green and promptly sealed up from any view 90% of what I had painted once I joined wing roots to body and added the filler panels. If having you point it, then it should be visible! No access panels to leave off there either

I don't get too picky about colors being exact. Color is in the eye of the beholder in my book and I like using Tamiya acrylic paints so that's how I approach it. The only time I get aggravated is the AS call outs instead of XF because of the smell, I don't use spray cans either and I don't paint outside. I have found it helps to keep all my Tamiya instructions. Some instructions will have XF mixes for colors you need on other Tamiya kits that use the AS call outs. It all depends on the age of the kit is what I have run into. It's hit and miss but if you are going to use Tamiya acrylics keep the instructions for future reference. I could make a lists but I've not taken the time to bother. I will usually buy my Tamiya paint directly from Tamiya USA. I bought the entire Tamiya X and XF line not too long ago. They were the 10ml bottles and when they get low I am buying the 23ml bottles as replacements. Pricing is resasonable.
