so i was just poking through my ebay watch list as i needed a part , and now everything from the smallest 3d printed piece to model kit now has a +$200 "shipping" charge. i guess i i will be working with whats in my stockpile and stash for a while until this nonsense ends. i thought i was seeing a glitch for a second !

Yup, and just like during the pandemic (I was in the middle of house renovations), unscrupulous vendors will use ANY excuse to gouge.
Insult to injury.

I still hear recordings when on-hold saying that recent global issues are resulting in higher than normal wait times.

Unfortunately we are in a hobby where most of our stuff is going to come from China or overseas

and like in this example below in the boardgame industry is also why small businesses are getting boned

"We face an unprecedented $14.50 tariff tax for every $10 we spent on manufacturing with our trusted long-term partner in China," he wrote. "For Stonemaier Games alone (a US based company in which all 8 employees are US citizens), that amounts to upcoming tariff payments of nearly $1.5 million."

My wife owns a flower shop, and most of our flowers come from South America due to the way the growing seasons work. You can't just get certain items locally at certain times a year and they must be sourced elsewhere
In addition our cost for vases have doubled and there is no good local alternative, because guess what, they all come from elsewhere as well

I mean they might make sense for certain things, but the idiocy in which these were applied across the board is mind blowing

But there is a reason most politicians/senators/congress people wind up much richer when they leave office than before they entered office

Just after those tariffs went into force, I saw a news report with an American woman who owns a business making some kind of mats (IIRC) from silicone rubber. As she explained it, most of the world's silicone comes from China, and she had ordered something like US$150,000 worth of it before those tariffs were announced, which would result in US$200,000+ in additional costs if her order arrived in the USA. And that was before the tariffs on goods from China were increased even further …

However, US$200 shipping fees for a 3D-printed part seem very strange to me, because shipping fees are not tariffs. The tariffs are what you would pay in your own country to that country's government when the goods arrive, not to the seller for shipping the thing over.

i kid you not..... look at this screenshot... this happened pretty much overnight

Don't know about you all but the plandemic convinced me to have enough stock on hand to weather through these types of things. I would imagine most of us do.

For US$200 I would expect it to arrive tomorrow, too, not a month and a half from now …

I just looked up that set you show on eBay, and, well … Want to see something funny?

Just to make sure, I clicked on "See details" and yes, it seems to be correct:

Shipping to Netherlands.png

To make certain, I clicked Update, and it keeps saying "free shipping". But select USA and click Update again, and:

Trying a bunch of other countries at random, all say the shipping is free, except for the USA.

Not trying to make this a political discussion, but gee, I wonder who's got something to do with that …?

for $200 , i would expect it be delivered by a buxom blonde in lingerie ....

I do have a big enough backlog stash where I do not have to buy new stuff when it comes to kits, but even supplies like paint could get really expensive here

I guess if there is a sliver lining, I'll save some money not buying things

I have enough in my stash that I can probably go until the next administration comes in and fixes all this mess before I have to buy a kit.

I am guessing that modifying the shipping cost by country is the simplest and easiest way of covering tariffs imposed by a country without having to raise the price across the board for everyone

200 still seems excessive, but they might have done an average of a typical order?

I think it is also prepping for the ending of the "De Minimis" loophole on anything under $800 since it theoretically cost more to collect the tariff than you actually make from collecting it

It is scheduled to end May 2 I believe so all those ETSY, Shein, Temu, Amazon etc.. packages are all going to be effected

The hell with Chinese cheap shit crap. I'm building a Trumpeter model right now and it sucks cuz it's cheap Chinese crap. Donald Trump is shaking up the whole world. This whole world needs to get off their ass and start producing. I'm glad Donald Trump is doing this. The whole world has been bending over the US of a for too long. If you don't like it get the hell out our way. Cuz in a couple years manufacturing is it a comeback to the United States and this whole world is going to be a better place. Y'all can stick up for China all you want go live there. I suppose you want to be like that idiot Rosie O'Donnell moving back to the Irish Hills. Good riddance to that fat ass liberal piece of shit

Personally I don't order stuff from China. I avoid it at all costs and not because of tariffs. I enjoy watching the Donald go to work and get things done for the better.

That's okay all for the better. I try to stay away from Chinese stuff but it's literally everything you buy. And that is going to end. I swear what happened to products that are made to last? Right now we live in a throwaway Society and everything we're throwing away is from China because it's crap. I'm telling you I was so glad when Trump decided to run for president because I knew this country needed a businessman or it was heading into the likes of Venezuela or Nicaragua. I'm telling you guys, Trump and the Republican Party are going to save this country and change the way things are done in the world. And all for the better. China is going to have a Day of Reckoning and I believe it's starting right now. And not from us foreigners. From inside China. They're not going to put up with Gigi ping much longer. Just like Putin. Putin is starting to perturb Donald and I don't think that's a good thing. And one other thing. The Democrat Party doesn't give two shits about the American people. They care more about guys in gangs like Trend aragua and MS-13. And how much money they can steal from the American people all the while telling them the government will take care of them. Free this and free that, what a bunch of bullshit. Okay I'm done. Thank you very much I feel better. Therapy session is over. Next?

By the way. My next model is going to be a World War II f4u-4 Corsair. American Ingenuity at its finest. Made in China. I feel like crying
