Hey! Just what you want from Santa: a theodolite!
Mentioned this scratch-built gizmo to OldManModeller... I hope this is the right place to show it, I know it is not a diorama, but it could very well live in one, it tells a story. I don't build dioramas, but like to accessorize, too much fun researching and scratch building!
Apparently when Bagnold scrambled to get the LRDG together, he was able to secure a few of these in Cairo. He had figured out how to use these for reckoning in the desert (yep, stop, set up, record measurements and go). Or set-up while the rest of the crew had a brew up (tea anyone?)
I've included 'Rory' for scale, he is just over 6feet tall @1:35
The instrument is slightly small, but after the excruciating process of designing and assembling the tripod, it is what it is!
2 part putty gizmo, polystyrene tripod
