Think my old 1/16th Grenadier needs a rework

I was going to dust my old (built late 90s) figure, I decided to look closer as if "should I redo this thing".

About when I was thinking, yeah I should, this is weak-sauce, the arm popped off.

I took that as a sign!






All I've done to date is strip most paint off of it. But I was smart enough (this time) to snap some pics. That orange residue is a very old putty.

I've done this very thing in regard to a rebuild @Edbert . I built a 1970 Dodge Challenger for my brother when I was a round 15 years old and gave it to him as a Christmas gift years ago. While I was visiting him and his family in 2014 I saw that the car was on the headboard of his bed with one wheel/ tire and hood missing. I asked him if I could take it back home with me for the repairs and ended up doing a full restoration of it. I did keep certain aspects of the interior and chassis the same for nostalgia's sake but like you..........the opportunity presented itself.

Looking very much forward to following your "Take II" on this figure buddy.

Looking at it now, it seems like the only tool I had was was dry brushing. It works well on some things, not so well on others. Particularly the faces and clothing, they require more subtle and (to me) modern techniques of washed and filters.

For right now I need to finish stripping it and keep watching videos on figure/face/drapery painting

If the end result is good enough, I might try the same on this even older kit I have. The 1/10th Monogram version of the statue in Washington DC near the Vietnam Memorial known as "Three Fighting men".



I built it many years before the Grenadier, and the paint job shows how rough my work was in the late '80s.



I REALLY liked the drybrush technique.

There's nothing wrong with a re-do, Edbert. As long as you can get a decent clean start, Ruck On! Dry brushing was how most of us did it here and there, but thankfully we all know better now, HA! Ruck On, I say, keep us posted. I REALLY hope you were just kidding, HA!
