Tie Fighter Revell Easy kit pocket

Well , my TIE Pocket Kit arrived today and I'm afraid it's a "good news/bad news" situation ! First the good news . The kit is one of the best of the Pocket Kits , the detail , although a little soft , looks like it should respond well to washes etc . The interior is well done and the pilot figure is excellent . Now the bad , ( please be aware , the bad is purely objective ) Revell has played a doozy with the scale of the kit . Again . Now , I've never had a problem with the , let's call it VARIABLE scale of these kits , mainly because , for the most part , I display the kits separately on their own display bases and I ( sort of ) understand Revells reasons for the different scales . BUT , quite simply , the latest TIE is simply TOO BIG ! Surely it makes sense to have the fighter the SAME scale as the two other TIE's in the range , the X-1 ( Vader's) and the Interceptor . To be perfectly honest , I'm REALLY disappointed with Revell for doing this as I had plans to do both a diorama of Two TIE's with an X-1 ( from the classic "trench run" sequence ) and one display piece featuring all three variants . I know this isn't the end of the world and most modellers won't be bothered by this , but I've been a defender of these kits since their first appearance and I've quite literally , been waiting for the release of this kit since then and I just can't fathom Revells logic . To be a bit more positive , the TIE (on first appearance at least ) appears to be the same scale as Revells larger X-Wing ( 1/72nd ?) so a diorama/display with one of those is always a possibility . I've posted a few pics , the larger TIE is the old AMT kit . I've not included a shot of the Interceptor , but it's the same scale as the X-1 .

On Art Movie fan french forum a friend opened a post with all the different TIE (AMT, big and little revell, even a conversion kit with a damaged solar panel).

Since you're registered there I suggest you check this out :) :D

I'm not registered there Youli , so I can't see the pics . The mystery of Revell's scales deepens , as although I'd assumed the Pocket TIE was 1/72nd , comparison with the Fine Molds Interceptor proves this not to be the case , as it's slightly , but noticeably larger .

Scale aside , I'm happy with the TIE as the details , though not super-sharp , respond well to pastel washes .

It also looks good on a Fine Molds display stand ! All in all , the low cost of the Pocket Kit , makes it ideal for "army building " and no doubt I'll end up investing in a few more . ;)
