Here is a simple kitbash, or modification of an even simplier kit : the Tie interceptor. The last AMT ERTL edition make me happy : it reminds me of old times in 1983 where it was easy to pick one of this kits. The cost was minimum so I orderd several of them, and others, to Starship Modeler 5 years ago.
Here is what the Tie interceptor look like as is.
It's obvious that I simple inverted the wings/solar panels of the Tie Interceptor. Simple idea but this old model had to be prepared.
I cut some parts that wasn't necessary...
First checking with this configuration...
I really had a hard time to make the access panel stay put. It will be glued later but at the moment that was very frustrating.
Have you seen the pilot ? It's no Tie fighter pilot. But I keep him that way.
It's an old snap tite model kit but it's worth the work. So here we go...
I used a lot of Kotobukiya and Wave option parts in order to improve this Tie Interceptor, for the ion engines and the weapons.
Some seams needed to be sanded so I did and added some photo-etched details..
The surveillance parts are glued and some option parts, plastic and metal are added..
Some Gundam marker grey/blue and then a steel dry brush and that looks good IMHO.
The Radar and surveillance devices are from other kits, a Regult Scout from Macross, etc.
The solar Panels had received a Blue Gundam Marker coat.
4 years later, I found it broke with other kits. One of many kits that needs to be fixed and will be with some improvements, to reinforce their parts and maybe some better painting.
