Vallejo Primer

Hi Everyone,

Recently I have brought some Vallejo Grey and Nato Green Primer for my tank, When I load my airbrush with the primer and start shooting, there is nothing come out like it clot the airbrush. I have never use this product before, did I do something wrong.Can anyone help me out as to how to apply this stuff. I am pretty new in terms of building Armor stuffs I used to build formula one car for a long time. Thanks!

Hi Coolcat (nice name by the way lol),
I thin my Vallejo primer 50/50 with Vallejo's own thinner. I believe you can also thin it with just water, so I'd strip your AB down, clean it all and try again with a thinned mix. What AB have are you using?

Hey there Coolcat,

No need to thin the primer, however the primer does like a higher than normal air pressure to spray well.

If you tried to spray it at the normal 20psi or so, it just doesn't like to spray. Bump your air up to about 30psi, and try it, if it is still behaving not normal then up the psi some more.

If you do feel like thinning it so it will spray at a lower pressure, use Vallejo's Air Brush thinner as it is formulated to work with the Vallejo paints and primers. Water, while it will work in a pinch, chemically doesn't bond with the paint as well as Vallejo's own thinner does. As well the thinner will lengthen out the drying time a touch and generally make it flow better.

However that being said...you don't need to thin the primer, just bump up your air pressure some....I have even sprayed some colors at 35-40psi.

The primer goes on...and shrinks to a nice tight, tough primer coat. Great stuff!

Thankyou guys for helping me out with this problem, I have use Mr Surfacer for a long time, I am thinking might just stick with it I do have the Vallejo AB Thinner and I was using Tamiya X-20A Acrylic Thinner to clean the AB but I read in this froum that you do need Vallejo own AB cleaner to clean it properly.This is a whole new ball game for a guy used to build F1 models. Really appreciated you guys helping me out.I have so much to learn from you guys Thanks!

Using tamiya thinner to clean the airbrush! Do you blow your nose with cash lol! Only pulling your leg mate. Yeah pick some of this up it's great:

I don't thin it at all, I spray it at 2bar goes on real nice.

As for cleaning I never use anything else for acrylic cleaning you can't beat Vallejo cleaner

I'm just echoing some of the comments from the other guys; but, I spray the Vallejo primer at 20-25 psi, and don't thin it. To clean I rinse with water and dump out anything remaining, then follow up with some airbrush cleaner (just generic stuff from a local art supply). I've tried the white, grey and black Vallejo primers, and one thing I've noticed is that the black seems to "flow" better in my experience. I get more issues when I use the white or grey.

Once again thanks for the info guys, I think I probably set the air pressure too low around
15psi. Last night I was trying out some model air and I add a drop of Vallejo thinner to the
paint and it was sparying nicely with no problem.I am getting some Vallejo thinner anyway just on the safe
side. You guys are great！

Quick question are there any Paint types that will react badly with this primer
