I usually worry about leaving empty space in a diorama, but you've left space and it really looks natural and works well.

Nice work, a bit of advice from an old gunner, after firing at least 6 rounds, "from the count of casing", the spades should be dug into the ground. The spade is the part the soldier is resting his foot on.
