So today I begin work on the D9R, and while assembly seems to be going smoothly with MENGs higher quality kit manufacturing I have come to realize that even with the kits aid in higher end detail I have to make decisions on when to paint and how to paint before I get to far in the build and the detail makes it difficult to paint cleanly.

One of the issues I have discovered is how to tackle the weathering, should I prime with a rust color first on the majority of the structure and then layer and chip to the final color or paint with the main color and add the rust last.

Any thoughts? PXL_20221228_153743263.jpgPXL_20221228_153749330.jpgPXL_20221228_153806867.jpg

So a few small up dates on the building,

Since this is a higher end kit that I've had my eye on for awhile I've been trying to approach it slow an methodical building the kit in sections and painting each part with and air brush prior to assembly so I can get uniform paint on all the parts because my hand brushing skills arent the greatest...

How ever MENG kits seem to be all over the place in assembly and with the amount of detail painting is a bit of a head ache because I find my self switching back and forth threw the colors Wich requires me to clean the air brush mix the paint spray and repeat for the next.. it's a bit time consuming.

Another issue I found is MENG has a bit of an issue with translation and clearly marking what colors go where.. the instructions are nicely put together in a book how ever they lack clarity in areas such as the internal components of the cab and some smaller details, and then there color chart doesn't really match up on the colors they show in the instructions or refrence pictures

This is there color chart which based on deduction is using vellejo colors referenced by there numbers keep an eye on the color square on the far right you'll notice the colors aren't quite rightPXL_20230102_164036878.jpg
Now look at the number 71.023 up in this image which according to the chart is supposed to be Hemp a tanish clean wood like color but in this picture above the color square is green. And the bulldozer body color is technically IDF dark grey, or gunship grey.

Inconsistency like this I have found scattered about the instructions.

The grey I'm using is the grey they listed but to me it's way to dark idk if I'll stick with the grey or change it up any thoughts?
