(3rd build, but first soft skin vehicle build.) Fedayeen Technical

Thanx Jelly for your intimate knowledge of this "poor man's humvee." It has this simplistic look about it and it doesn't look like a humvee. Not the best looking vehicle, but if it came out in the open market, I would buy it.

Hey, Fork,

I think that maybe in my Father home are stocked some photos of one of this civvy vehicle, un-armed, top closed, as I remember... If I am able to find it (( ::) )) I´ll scan it and post here, just as "historic" document of a very extreme desertic zone (exactly like South Afghani environment).

Well, dude, you can get similar vehicles 2nd / 3rd hand... for example, this is the Toyota model I was talking about, and it was (then) a design hard as granite:

I don´t know where do you live, but in Europe you can get similar vehicles today: for example, a good 2nd hand old Land Rover 90 would do the same or even better...

By the way: your model is getting really nice, Fork.

(Psst: clarification: ;) when I said "poor man´s humvee" I wasn´t talking about the model kit: I was talking about the softskinned 4WD vehicles that "Insurgent" groups can afford / get access to... ;) )

Cheers

oh i just used what was at hand i think it was around 400. you should try the tissue and white glue trick for your seats i done it on my current build and its realy nice and easy to do make teh seats look worn and used.

your jeep is looking real smart now Fork keep it up :)

Thanx for the type of grit used. I was using 1000 grit and that didn't work very well. Is there a link to see how the tissue and white glue is applied on the seats?

No worries! If you get the chance to find the images and scan them, I'll check it out on the historic thread you mentioned. I live in the states, the Land Rover or the Toyota you link too, I 've soon those around, both great vehicles. I especial like the Land Rover, It looks so bad@$$! It looks like it can knife through any car it hits.

What you mentioned about Poor man's humvee. No problem Jelly I understand what your saying 8)!

Have a good 24/7!

I've been looking through Youtube videos about how to weather your kit and I got stumped on what type of clear coat I should use on a enamel painted model. @ a local hobby shop, I bought a small bottle of testor's clear top coat. I tested it on an engine of a zero fighter, brushed it actually. It came out glossy, I even mixed it with thinner like bottle suggested. It's that end result with top coat, being glossy?

It there another brand I should use?

Can I use future shine on it?

Or is there a ratio for clear coat/thinner?

Re: (3rd build, but first soft skin vehicle build.) Fedayeen Technical, updated.

Hey addicts!

So I am continuing on with the technical build, This time I moved onto weathering. So far I'm having a blast with the techniques I learned.
DSCN4879.jpg
Starting with the frame and tires.
With all three pieces, I did some paint chipping effects where I think the metal should be exposed. Created a wash using Windsor and Newton oil paint and a bit of thinner. Added it to parts that I think oil might be used, on the 76mm gun, the frame, etc. For the tires hey were airbrushed with a mix of white and gunmetal gray, giving the tires that exposed to sunlight look.
DSCN4880.jpg
Then did a light airbrush of Testor's army/marine modern sand, subtle as possible on most of the technical, I think I over did the 2 rear tires.

Before the airbrush coat I added some rust effects of the rear or gun platform of the Technical, that's the only area of rust I did it on, didn't want to over do it.

Instead of just buying a figure, I decided to mod the figures that came with the kit, thought I save a few bucks. Bought paper clips for arms or for an armature. Got some miliputty and two part epoxy modeling clay. Just experimenting and simple, standing by the technical with an AK. I'm going to cover the face with a mask using the clay. Did the left arm, not too bad, might be a bit long, but I'm moving on.

Here it is altogether.

I just took a small break. I figure if I'm going to weather more vehicles, I'd start with the technical. Thanx Spud!

lolwut?

Guinness is disgusting? Sorry, American beer is disgusting...

Sit longer, for why? it's from a can for Pete's sake. Besides, I was more concerned with conserving time in the video and less concerned with letting the full flavor bloom in my glass.

;)
I agree with both of you:). Give us a nice German WeiSbier. Yummy

I'm just catching up on this build, and I"m really digging it. Love the concept and the weathering is looking great:)
