This one's about ready for decals and top-coat ! :
;D This it my autonomous A-10 in incipient form
It's based on the old Tamiya 1/48 A-10A kit - and it is a dog of a kit .
. Bow-wow . ( in Walken's voice )
There ain't many kit choices for this plane , remarkably .
I kina wish I had gotten the Revell kit . It couldn't be worse and it has 'operable' air-brakes .
I'm contemplating cutting the rudders loose and scratching the deceleron/ailerons - but
Fuselage has been lengthened 1056 mm ( 41.5" ) to accomodate the cannon and internal ammo stowage and auto-loader .
The engines are now the GE -T34 Triple L ( Long Low Loiter )
They are 504 mm ( 20" ) longer to provide a 2-stage fan and modified turbine with additional low pressure stages
Canards and center vertical stabilizer/rudder added to stabilize 105 mm platform .
Larger flaps for lower stall speed & increased response at low-slow attitudes .
Extended aft fuselage section raised ~ 430 mm ( 17" ) to maintain FOD resistance and slip-stream minimization of IR signature from engines
Bulge for auto-loader on starboard side
1/35 scale 76mm cannon , rifled . Scales to 104.22 mm ; close enough .
I think it will accommodate an L64 gun using two-piece ammo .
I am working out two separate designs for the gun system to get the bullets in there .
--- taking into account loading and stowage and changes in ballast during operation and whether the spent cases are ejected . Or case-less charges ?
The " cockpit " contains the sensor array ( so it will have eyes - all -over - ) and the refueling probe will stow into the top of it . plus the canard system ....
The kit comes with Mavericks and bombs , MK 20 , GBU 8 , 10
but I got this here :
... Which contains more fun , but the 20 mm and 30 mm gun pods I am most interested in .
I think this new section of fuselage is a perfect home for more countermeasures :
Lots of sanding and panel lines ahead .
Lots
Comments please ;D
