Good to hear that you're planing to keep working on this one. Some builds are like that - challenging. But look at it this way, it's forcing you to try techniques that you might not have otherwise tried. You can learn a lot from that kind of experimentation, and that's a good thing. Still don't let the frustration get to you. It's only a hobby after all, and should be fun...
To repair the tail, I'd get a good liquid cement (I like Tamiya extra thin). I'd (gently) hold the two parts almost touching together or even just touching. Take the brush and dap just a little cement on to the broken joint (the cement will draw in to the joint by capillary reaction) - then apply a little pressure to force the parts together. It should set in a few moments. If your lucky a little of the solvent melted plastic will force up from the joint, let it sit over night. Then sand smooth, very little filler might be needed. - Just a suggestion.
