Border models zero

Wing pretty much built and working on the body. It's pretty cool. They give you the option on the elevators. Shot up? Or pristine. That's kind of neat cuz I'm thinking of it being all shot up and battle damaged

Built a Zero as a kid, and a pretty decent pen-and-ink in middle school. Traded the drawing with a guy who showed me how to drum 'Wipeout' on my desk! Life was so simple at 12!

Detail looks really nice, not raised panel lines, but actual raised panels...awesome!

Is that true for all or most Border kits?

I found this guy's blog a great resource for IJN/IJA aircraft, and more. I'm researching my Zero/Val/Kate 3x combo kit, hope to try to build all three at once this summer, just gotta clear some squirrels off the bench.

I did notice the raised panels and stuff it's going to be cool to paint and here's a couple pictures of my border models FW 190 and it doesn't have the actual raised panels which could be contributed to the way the Japanese built the zero, I don't know. But I do know I was getting the wings and stuff on this zero and the fit is really good I mean almost excellent. Very surprising

Is that true for all or most Border kits?

I don't know about their aircraft kits, but I do know their AFVs do not have a good reputation. There are a few exceptions, but most of the Border Models AFV kits have all kinds of mistakes that simply shouldn't be there if they had done their research slightly better.

This is my second borders kit the first one being the FW 190 and I agree with you. Although you can't argue with the price. And I've said it before and I'll say it one more time. If you're a modeling beginner and you get one of these kits? You're in trouble. You're going to be lost at the first step

All right got the airframe painted X 11 Chrome silver and painted up the propeller and the bombs and the landing gear and today I clear coated the airframe because Tuesday is when I'm going to get in my AK chipping fluid and I'm going to try that stuff out. I'm pretty sure I'm going to paint the body that green color so I can chip the hell out of it but I have to admit I really like the light gray color rather than the green.

Japanese planes were often very poorly painted, with no primer underneath, or even cleaning the surface before applying the paint, leading to the paint flaking off like you see in many photos, such as those above. This goes especially for Army aircraft, which looked like that throughout most of the war. Navy planes were much neater initially because they were well-painted at the factory as an anti-corrosion measure. That fell by the wayside eventually, though.

Nope. As Snoopy would say.. nope, not today. I'm just getting over all the damn frustration. Maybe if I would have used the right wire instead of unraveling speaker wire. Maybe if I actually knew what I was doing. Maybe. Maybe if I was younger and my eyesight was better and I didn't have a slight Shake. I drilled all that stuff out and ran the wires and and started running the wires and that's what it just took an immediate left turn over the cliff. One wire didn't look right and the next one broke off and that's when the Flackhammer started whispering in my ear and I just tore all the wires out and said the heck with it. And the blood pressure immediately went down. So I am just working on the engine. Primed it and then X11 Chrome silver and black panel liner and I'm going to let that dry overnight. See you

"That color" appears to be very elusive, tomes have been written about it, and actual samples vary substantially. I look forward to what you do with it. I think I'll put my zero on the on-on deck circle. Want to clear off some underway builds before my 1/16th Halftrack comes in. I'd like to wait on that kit a while, but I also know my impulsiveness.

Question:
The silver underlay, is that enamel? Curious about the chipping method you will use as much as the color.

Always wanting more opinions...for a Pearl Harbor build...were the IJN aircraft all recently sprayed or at least repaired/patched?

Primered with Tamia gray primer and then Tamia X11 Chrome silver. Then I sprayed that with gloss. My bottle of AK chipping fluid comes in tomorrow and from what I heard I'll give it two coats where I want to chip and then I think I will spray the interior of the landing gear Wells and then the closest green I can figure out using ja green xf-13. I've never chipped before so I don't know what I'm going to use. Toothpick, end of the paintbrush, the paint brush itself? It's all new to me. Oh and I'm going to use some shade of light gray on the bottom
