Gritty Kitty

Fantastic! Nice to see clearly your detail and weathering without a diorama around it.
Thanks, this one never made it to a diorama, even though she's been around for decades, I don't think I have
another significant dio left in me at my age and condition, shaky hands being the worst problem when it
comes to modeling, but I do have three vehicles that need finishing touches and to be photo-ed and posted.
So hopefully I will get to them soon.

Right now I am fighting a battle with a leg pain problem, two cortisone injections later and pain is coming
back!. Obviously a nerve problem, now it's off to an MRI of my lower back.....WONDERFUL !
I can now at least hobble around with a cane which sucks. A week ago I had to literally crawl on hand and knee
to make it 20 ft to the bathroom in pure agony.

It sucks not knowing exactly what the problem is, though years ago I was diagnosed with 'degenerate disc disease
and arthrosis'......Yay! So...nearly 40 years of busting my bum as a journeyman electrician has finally caught up with me.

DON"T GET OLD!!

Jim.

significant dio
Well, I for one am grateful that you are able to find time to share your body of work with us.
Hopefully those moments offer some small respite from some of that what's ailing ya.
Cheers,
Brian

Sorry to hear Jim. Hoping you get some relief soon.

Thanks guys for your kind words of support, had MRI last Thursday but haven't heard anything yet.
Good news is that I seemed to have improved quite a bit since last posting, no more cane needed
and was finally able to go out and do some light yard work yesterday with a slew of Grandkids
who have been worried sick about old Grandpa and were delighted to see me out and about.

Of course that did not mean I was off the hook for some tractor rides.
But I'm not counting my chicks before they hatch, I'm still on some heavy pain killers yet
so who can tell if I went off them what would happen.

So I'm just biding my time until a supposed follow up next week to discuss MRI and take it from there.
I do know one thing, I can not and will not be on these pain killers for life, no fucking way!
so they better do some damn thing!
But I've heard too many horror stories concerning back surgery so I hope that will not be the case.
A good old cortisone shot in the right spot hopefully would be the answer...so let's hope.

Hey jim? Sounds like you have something similar to me. I was custom Carpenter for years and I hurt my back lifting a 60 ft beam. Squished three discs. Remember this is 30 or so years ago. I got better but fast forward 35 years and the pain at times was incredible. I had to baby it and if I forgot and started playing lumberjack the next day I was in bed and I could not move my back would just give out and I would have to crawl on my hands and knees to make it to the bathroom to take a dump because I sure as hell I'm not going to shit in my pants. Anyways years go by and it's getting worse so I went to the Core Institute and they took an x-ray and yes I was in bad shape down there. I couldn't even do PE. So they gave me an MRI and eventually I ended up having RFD done to my lower back. There's a couple tests to make sure this is what they need to do and it is so we went ahead and did it they go in there with the needle and burn the end of your nerve in six different spots. Oh my God this was 2 years ago and it's just now starting to wear off in very tiny increments we're at the end of the day my back will be a little bit sore and that's it. There's been no pain no anything. There was days I couldn't move for at least a week and that's all in the past. Radio frequency ablation.

I hated that MRI because it was the old style. And all the tests and everything? All outpatient. Even the RFA. I was there about half an hour and walked out the door I could not believe it. Pain free and I could do just about anything I wanted to do except be stupid and like I said that was 2 years ago and I could go dancing right now if I wanted to but no one wants to see a 64-year-old man dance. I certainly don't.

Forty-five years ago, L4and L5 (lumbar disks 4 and 5) blew up. The senior orthpedic surgeon said it looked like a bomb went off. I was paralyzed from the waist down. Six and one half hours of surgery later, he didn't think I'd walk again. Neither did his younger partner. The third partner thought I would, and won the bet. (He was also a back patient.) I was walking when I left the hospital. Recovery was gradual, and I have chronic back problems, but by adapting I can do most anything I want—and have. Now you may be older than I was then, but spine surgery has come a long way in the last forty-five years. If you have a good surgeon, your prognosis is good. Just remember that in recovery, "fast is slow, slow is fast." Good luck!

I wrote down the procedure you described and certainly will discuss it with my (new) specialist.
I am very happy you are pain free after going through your ordeal, I had this exact same problem with the same
calf over two years ago and after three months of going back and forth with the first specialist I saw who was a
real scumbag who put me through three very painful MRIs and an arterial sonogram or some bullshit procedure
and then had the nerve to tell me "I see nothing that would require a surgical solution" so I said "what about the
fact that I am in constant pain and can't walk!" and we've driven hundreds of combined miles traveling back and
forth for all these visits and MRIs and other tests? I said "can't you give me a cortisone shot at least?"

I told him that about eight years ago my wrist which for some reason became immovable without severe pain
I went to our little local hospital E.R., was given a cortisone shot and 48hrs later, no more pain, which never returned.
for over 8yrs! now.
He said "well that would only mask the problem" he then left the exam room and said "I'll be back in a moment"
After me and the wife sat like two shmucks for around 25mins the nurse came in and said "is everything alright?"
We said "we are waiting for the doctor to come back, who said he "would be back in a moment" over 25mins ago!
She said "well he has left the office over 20mins ago" I said "well I thought he might be preparing a shot for me
or something, did he mention anything about it" she said "no but he did close out your file and said
"wish him good luck for me":mad::mad::mad::mad::mad::mad:
If my wife were not there I'm sure I would be in prison right now!
So my G.P. made an outpatient appointment at our local orthopedic clinic where I was immediately
Given the shot and in 48hrs or so was pain free for over two years! But it came back with vengeance!
So this time around I was given two shots in different places but to no avail and am now on
heavy doses of Lyrica and oxycontin, so I don't know since I'm in much less pain if I stopped would it
return? My new specialist wants to do a follow up after the latest MRI of my back, so......
but his office is 76 miles away! I'm just going to call few days before the appointment and tell them
I ain't driving all that way unless you are giving me another shot or a bullet to the head or something!
I'm not coming 76 mile just to have a talk! If that's the case then we could do it over the phone!

UGH! The whole deal sucks but I got to play it out without losing it!

Jim.
