Group Build: Historical Warships of WWII

Looks great! The color looks very nice on her and the clear will darken it a bit like you mentioned. Did you have to mix the batch to make that color?
Yes, started with XF-50 as the primary color, added light grays to make it "grayer" but then had to add dark grays to make it darker, and them more blues to make it bluer. Just an eyeball thing, no science behind it.

I allowed the clear to harden overnight and into the afternoon. Started applying some brown and very dark gray washes, as well as some light gray highlights that are like a drybrush thing just too wet to call it that.

Trying to keep it on the subtle side, yet still represent the wear and tear of a tour of duty in the Pacific.

Is it just me, or the Texas is an intimidating ship to paint? I still can't get myself to start spraying the deck. I'm afraid its going to be too dark, too light, too blue, or too gray.

My masks arrived.

@Edbert Your Texas is looking great all around. The detail, colors, and weathering are making a great build. Really enjoy watching your work. I would even enjoy you making videos of your builds! ;)

So I hope to have some images and updates on my Indy build soon. I've been under the weather with an inner ear infection and antibiotics are terrible for model building...lol. Anyhow, really enjoying this build so far and definitely look forward to updates on everyone's builds!

I too been fighting the sinus crud. All the smoke and dust from the high winds around here did help.
I started painting the upper surfaces of the 1/700 scale Texas and it was a good paint session. I still had a tin of WEM Colourcoats Deck Blue and it went on nicely using the Tamiya lacquer thinner. The masks I got also went on really well. These will really make painting the Haze Gray easier.

@scottrc78 Man that deck looks great, good coloring and all. It's looks super nice to have a great mask set like that to make it easier for painting the rest. Who manufactured the mask?

I'm jealous, wish I'd have taken your route on painting steps. Already starting to worry about the 1:144 DD I have on-deck, no pun.
