Hello there, my name is Yvan, and I'm a Sci-fi Model Builder... :D

I've seen lights and fun here so I come to say "Hello, where's the beer ?" or something like that.

I began to build models when I was 8 or 9 years old with Airfix, Matchbox and Monogram models. The Airfix ones were Dinosaurs, even an Orion from 2001 a space odissey (my very first kit), and the Lunar Module 1:72. Modern fighters from Monogram, 1:48 with the F-16 and the F-18. I built the Heller kits (Battle in the Cévennes and a French Helicopter) of my Uncle, he was so impressed that he offered me his tools and paints.
Years later, in 1985, I had the opportunity to buy Robotech model kits and Star Wars model kits. I built a lot those days, and learn a lot too... I had no more time to build in the 90's since I was involved in the making of a Fanzine, and then a Magazine about Animation and Manga. But I never quit the model making, doing some robot models or starships one at a time. In the years 2000 I decided to make more of my models since i had more and more in my rooms.
The Macross Hasegawa's models were the perfect opportunity to do it again, with more quality and fun. Then i began to build more of my Star Wars and Star Trek kits, even kitbashes.
For the past 4 years i developped some skills in that matter. Doing essentially Galactica, Star Wars and Star Trek inspired kits.

That, if you're OK with it, will be the next step to my "hello" part : showing you some of the kits i've done for the past 30 years. :D

Regards,
Yvan

Welcome aboard Yvan!!! Think your going to like it here!!! ;D Can't wait to see some of those past builds!!! ;)

Yvan,
Yvan Bienvenue à bord, ami du pays dont ils proviennent des cigognes,
, welcome to aboard, Bienvenido a bordo.

Thank you guys ! ;D

Man, didn't know France was supposed to be the land of storks (is that the english word for Cigogne ?). Maybe Alsace, it's a common belief in the north, like Belgium, maybe norway... Really don't know. If babies come from France, watch out, they're going to be hungry and wanna eat bread, croissant and baguette ! :D

Enough talking about fairy tales. ;D

Here are some examples of my past builds. Don't have them all, some are lost, broken, so I didn't have the opportunity to get a picture of them. I have some Robotech kits, but I have to fix them before pretending showing them anywhere. :D

Let's go

First, let's say that at a young age you want some pricy toys. Star Wars was pricy and even rare at some point. So I made my toys from scratch, here a Tie Fighter with cardboard and a ping pong ball... :D

Some old Star Wars kits, all made between 1983 and 1989.

R2-D2, build as is, was a bit disappointed with the translucid blue of the dome...

The Tie Interceptor, from an Airfix lot that included a A-wing, B-wing, a X-wing and some enamel paint. Done in 1985.

Same here with the X-wing...

Same here for the B-wing...

The Slave one, the color are too flashy, that's because I did buy some of it for a fair price and needed to use orange and copper... :D

The Jabba's Palace. I made some extra walls, added some figures approximatively the same scale. I lighted it with some Christmas white lights. 1985.

The AT-AT. Broken... But fixed 2 years ago for an exhibition about Sci-fi.

Here a diorama i'm very proud of, even if I didn't filled the seams and such... Made some interesting discoveries about paint : mixing aluminum and white made a perfect grey color with metallic feel in it.

WIll try to show some real past built...

Here is a Valkyrie, 1/100, Arii, SUper-Valkyrie... built in 1987.

An Armored Valkyrie, 1/72, Arii, was proud of it at the time since I made my very first and own modification, in 1988/89... Not easy since I had to find solution to fill the gaps and modify the big hands, and and so on... Alway wanted to modify it further more, but it's a witness of the past, my first steps in modeling. It needs to stay as is.

More recently, in the years 2000, a friend of mine, who had a comics/model shop, gave me a model kit he cannot sell : it lacks a tree and kit parts were not able to do anything good. It was the VF-1J, transformable one, from Macross, 1/72 Bandai. I managed to find the missing parts but instead of building a transformable robot, I choose to give it the Battloid mode, and the Myria red look. Here is what I built some 6 or 8 years ago (can't remember exactly !).

Same period, built the VF-11 D, 1/144, Bandai. The kit is not transformable but you have the Battloid and the Fighter mode. Did the VF-19 too, never actually get a picture of it. A shame since I made a lot of modifications too. Maybe 2001 or 2002...

I do love Japanese Animation. I'm a big fan of Miyazaki's work, and I have most of the Gunze Sangyo kits about Cagliostro's castle. In 2006 I decided to participate on a contest in Paris, with the Fiat 500. I built the car (plastic) and the figures (resin), my girl friend Dany made the diorama (plaster). We planned it for weeks but we made it, real time, in 24 hours : a real challenge ! :)

But we made it, and it was a success. We were rewarded with a medal ! :D

I managed to find a very hard to find kit on ebay years ago, a Hound Bike from VENUS WARS. 1/24 scale, all resin and some metal parts... Made it "for fun" 3 years ago...

Sci-Fi is my BIG passion, and I do love the starships designs in Babylon 5 for example. Here is the (strange) resin kit from warp of the White Star. I used all my painting technics but also the decals from Gizmotron. The kit is fragile, full of bubbles and need constant repair...

I love Robots. Or armor... Or Androids... Or Cyborg... You name it ! :D

Here is some of my Votoms model kits i built this past 5 years.

A Red Shoulder scopedog, Takara, 1/35

The Berserga, 1/24, soft Vinyl, Kaiyodo

A Diving bettle, 1/24, Soft vinyl, Kaiyodo

The Strikedog, 1/24, Soft VInyl

ABC War robot Judge Dredd movie, soft vinyl, 1/6...

Deux ans sans mise à jour c'est long.

Did some classic manga figures too !

Songoku, Soft Vinyl, 1/8... buyed it in Belgium, obviously it was a bootleg.

Vegeta, soft vinyl, 1/8... Also found in Belgium...

You'll see that i've got a lot of Star Wars and Star Trek kits, but the iconic of them all is, of course, the millenium Falcon.

Here is the revell's versions.

The big one, easy kit. 24 euros in a model shop, foudn it in a flee market for 5 euros.

And the little one, Easy kit pocket. 7 euros in France.

Have some MPC kits too, did modify one for a very personnal project, an YT-1300 that is not the Falcon. Named it "Corelian easy target" since its colors make it appear like a moving target.

I will not bore you with "all" my kits, since I don't have it all in numeric fashion, but here is my last posting here with my proud and joy, a very personnal designed and modified Star Destroyer. Made out from the MPC kit, the bridge command was missing, so i imagined some solutions... And came up with this :D

Me, fixing some parts, completing the build...
