Hi from New Jersey

Welcome to the Herd, DG! Whereabouts in Jersey are you?
I'm in Bethlehem, PA, but there are a couple of clubs here in the Mid-Atlantic that might interest you, depending on where you are.
I look forward to seeing your builds!
Best regards,
Brad

Welcome!!!! Many great people here, let's see the perfect pictures of the perfect build.....

Edison NJ
Edison...OK, not exactly next door, but not too far, either. Here in the Lehigh Valley, we have our Lehigh Valley Scale Modelers club, which meets every other Wednesday at the Borough Hall in Catasauqua PA. That's outside of Allentown, upriver on the Lehigh.

Another club is the Miniature Figure Collectors of America, MFCA, and we meet on the last Sunday of the month, January through October, at AAA Hobbies in Magnolia, NJ. Our January meeting is coming up this Sunday. We start with social time at 11AM when the store opens, but the meeting starts at noon. This month, we have a presentation on diorama techniques. We alternate with build meetings, where we build & paint, share techniques, etc.

The third club is the Delaware Valley Scale Modelers, who meet on the first Friday of every month, at All Saints Episcopal Church, 9601 Frankford Ave, Philadelphia, PA 19114. Not hard to get to, actually, from the Turnpike and Route 1.

If you're ever inclined to visit any of these clubs, you're more than welcome, and we'd look forward to seeing you!

Best regards,
Brad

Mostly military models from Cold War era.
You have plenty of choice, then :) There are lots of good (and lots of not-so-good) kits of Cold War vehicles and equipment, so you can build things from the very common to the pretty esoteric straight from the box.

That's interesting, the location in Catasauqua. My father was raised in Allentown; he then joined the Navy in March 1945. My vacation home is on the Lehigh River, the headwaters near Gouldsboro in the Poconos.
