Holiday Traditions

Our family traditions.
-XMAS music starts on Black Friday.
-Tree up and all decorating occurs first weekend in Dec. Watching the various Rankin Bass holiday specials now begin.
-Christmas Eve evening usually go to Evening Church Service, then after that kids open (1) present and then we watch Rudolph The Red Nosed Reindeer.
-Christmas Morning stockings and "Santa" gifts waiting for each kid when they wake up.
After breakfast we open all gifts under the tree from family. Then we go to grandmas for more presents.
-NY EVE we watch Rudolph's Shiney New Year.
FIN.

Family Holiday meals, planning and preparing them, before, during and just after Christmas. It is one of the few times everyone is back together, around the table, cutting up and having a mini reunion of sorts. I've found no subsitute for that feeling of being surrounded by family.

I would love to hear about your favorite holiday traditions -

Do you open gifts up on Christmas Eve? Do you have tree decorating night? Let's share and get to know each other more.
Well, my family used to have the traditional Christmas when I was a kid, but there is only me and my sister left now. I just send and receive cards from friends I've known from the past and watch dvds like "It's a Wonderful Life" and "White Christmas". Of course, going to Church is a big part of Christmas for me, too.

Christmas decorations go up the day after Thanksgiving and come down the day after New Years.
Christmas Eve we watch the movie Elf. Open gifts Christmas morning, then have breakfast. I always make a Christmas breakfast casserole Christmas Eve day, then put in oven early Christmas morning and let it bake while we open gifts.

Sounds great!

Down here in Australia, our Christmas is a summer affair and we're usually celebrating on or near the beach. Christmas eve tends to be a quiet evening. I'm an ICU Nurse and more often than not, I'm either working or I'm coming off a run of shifts. This year, I'll be starting a delicious vacation of four weeks and I'm so looking forward to it.

This is not my favorite tradition, but one that I think people would find amusing. My mom was a little odd. At Christmas she would put things that we were always using up in our stockings like Scotch tape and pens (in addition to more traditional things). I think she did it out of annoyance that every time she wanted to find the tape it was missing because of one of us. So now, with my kids, I always make sure that I put a roll of Scotch tape in their stockings (along with candy and fun stuff).

When I was a kid, on Christmas eve morning, my Dad and I would go out and find the cheapest tree available. Decorate it on that same day, if the tree had some thin spots we would cut lower branches, drill holes and reshape it.
Now, no extended family around, just my Wife and Daughter, so it's a do nothing PJ day, 4 must watch Christmas movies:
Ernest Saves Christmas
Christmas Vacation
Polar Express (3D)
Die Hard

Christmas day I cook the dinner and usually would have drunk a bottle of bucksfizz time that's done, my kids are over every other Christmas day as they live with their mum but my girlfriend will be here, then movies and see who falls asleep on the sofa first lol
In the uk we have boxing day (26th) and the whole family will meet at my mums for dinner. Most people won't go back to work till about the 2nd January so it's a nice break.

On Christmas Eve, thewife and I get together with the kids(both adults now), have dinner, open a gift, and then go to midnight Mass. Christmas Day we meet again, open gifts and usually do lunch.
