Holiday Traditions

That's a nice area. I used to take dance lessons at the Arthur Murray Studio at the High Street Kensington address. I think they have moved to Baker Street now. I had to give it up as I would be out too late and got back to the base after midnight. The amount of sleep I got on the train on the way back didn't ever seem to be enough. It started to affect my ability to stay awake at work <chuckle>. Oh well, it was fun while it lasted. Are you working on a model currently? I'm working on the 1/48 F-4E Phantom II by Italeri. It's a bit of a challenge with camouflage paint scheme on the outside. (Kit No. 2770) I have to use a pencil to trace the lines of separation between the colors by following the pictures in the instructions. While I was at Mildenhall in '76 or '77, I built the 1/48 B-17G Flying Fortress by Monogram. Lots of internal color but only three on the outside, Olive Drab on top and a shade of gray on the bottom, some red on the tail area and on the main wing tips. It was the Chow Hound. It took me a while, but I sure enjoyed it. I brought it back with me on the plane and it went to my paternal grandmother in 1979.
Staying awake at work yes a problem I have sometimes too lol.
I've a few kits on the go at the moment, 2 choppers,mi-17 and a wessex hu5 both in 1/48, a 1/72 mig 15 and 1/350 jmsdf ddg 175 myoko so plenty to keep me busy lol

For us - Wife and I; She's the 'Ho-Ho Girl' and the tree's up after Thanksgiving - House is total, TOTALLY decked-out - All presents are bought, wrapped, ready for the kid's and grandkids before 12-5 [normally] and she'll layout and plan my BD [Christmas Eve], well before the Christmas... She's the 'Energizer Bunny' from Thanksgiving to News Years Eve and I am always amazed. And now the kids [here in Idaho with us], have stepped up and in and do more and more. They'll Christmas Morning at their place and we'll squeeze in Church [manytimes] and then they'll spend the afternoon with 'Awma and Pappa', where we'll exchange gifts and dine. For 'us' this time of the year, we've always tried to make it 'bout Family and Friends and The Season.

For the past few years our tradition is waking up and enjoying a quiet day. Son usually visits from WI for a few days and we have a great home cooked prime rib dinner. And that's about it. Parents have all passed and all close friends are gone as well, distance (and other reasons) prevents sibling visits from both sides of family. Sounds a little depressing but it's not. We continue to be thankful for what we have and remember past Christmases with a smile and always look forward.

I wish for continued good health, fun/relaxing modeling, and a joyful/happy holiday season for everyone here!
Happy Thanksgiving and Merry Christmas!

I guess this happens to be my introduction post returning to modeling after 50 years.

Hi and welcome to the forum. Pantherman

Christmas for me in the 1960's and 70's was church on Christmas Eve and then gifts were opened after church that night. Christmas day was mostly a pajama day with a big breakfast and everyone from the grandparents on down in age playing with us kid's new toys. Dad always bought a real tree and we all decorated it before Christmas. No decorative Christmas lights on the house outside that I remember.

Unless one of us kids got a new tricycle, bicycle, BB gun, or other outdoor toy; It was a pajama day. I remember getting a USS Enterprise aircraft carrier model kit one year. It was about 4 feet long... I never finished that kit. First thing, I built and painted the planes, it took months. When I got to building the ship, the hull was missing. Gone. I don't know what happened, but I had 3 brothers and now I think one of them did some jealous mischief.

In my early adult years, I married young, and it was at my parents on Christmas Eve and her parents on Christmas day. Lots of driving. When our own children were born and raised the fun started again. Nothing like watching the children play with the new toys. I would put a small amount of Christmas lights on the house.

Now, we are older, and our kids have kids. The program is the same for them. The process rolls over.

Christmas in my home has always been about Jesus Christ. About the love of God and for each other. About family. And the happiest time of year.

Welcome to our house. Make yourself at home. This site has a bunch of great guys.

Working... paramedic so not unusual.

Yeah, I spent 25 years of my life working for the government. A 24/7 affair and getting Christmas or holidays off didn't come until my last few years. I'm retired now. I suffered holidays without the family, and my family celebrated most holidays without me.

But the work you and other first responders do makes the world a better place.

Keep up the Lord's work.

Administrator just wants to know the members on a more personal level. If you don't want to share then don't respond.
This is the perfect response, but I'll admit I had similar thoughts initially. The message came from someone I did not recognize and was not related to modelling. I think we all remember the only-fans girl (that is what I thought) that was trolling here recently, right?

But yeah, Tim is right. This is a community of very VERY different people who share a common interest. Yet it is interesting to hear the different stories too.
