Italian Job Mini (with a twist)

Thanks Matt, they are a blast, its like driving a go kart

Got some more done.

Started by rusting up the car with the airbrush

Then used masking fluid and a sponge to mask off the rust. Using the fluid gave me more control of where the rust ended up than using salt. Then an overspray of faded blue

I also painted up the ground and added a border. The unpainted bits will be painted up as rock formations

I got this long grass sheet delivered today to make the scene look overgrown

Thanks for looking guys

LOL, no I meant a Mini kit. They look like fun.

Your doing a great job here. The chipping fluid does a great job making the paint look pealed. Well, it is really pealed isn't it. But I also have found the masking fluid hard to get off. What brand are you using? Where did you get the grass? Looks spot on.

cheers guys

sorry Matt thought you were fancying a change of car!

the mask is vallejo liquid mask, first time ive used it but it works really well. the most difficult part is spotting where youve covered because it goes on quite thin but a quick rub over with a finger peels it back easily enough.

the grass was found by trawling through ebay but it was a British seller so it probably wont help you in Canada too much, but the seller is draxmodels

The Vellejo is probably better than the stuff I have. The grass does look good. Keep up the good work. Should look pretty cool when finished.

That's a new twist on the tarps that I've never seen. I'm interested to see how the foil sheetmetal damage method works as well. Those Tamiya Mini kits are cool little models. They go together really well.

Matt

Chris.

Thanks Guys, comments always appreciated!

I've just finishd up this build, I didn't do much WIP shots as I was having so much fun!
There was too much work to document but I mossed up the rocks a bit, weathered and rusted it with acrylics, put in the carpets and lifted them a bit to show the rust underneath and added all the details, including hand painting the registration plate with the correct number from the blue Italian Job mini and wiring the spark plug leads
So here we are after all that

just caught with your thread buddy one amazing build you got your self here...love the film
(there is only one Italian job) and you've done it justice with this top build that car looks so real :)

Neat stuff Leigh. The ground work and car are both well done. Where will this end up I wonder? A display case, desk...?

That looks wonderful, such a clever idea for a diorama.

I've just started that very same kit, and am thinking about the direction I should take it.

Thanks guys

Gee, you're right there is only one Italian Job, 'you're only supposed to blow the bloody doors off!'

Matt, I have a friend who is Mini mad and so I think it will be going on his display shelf, unfortunately I only have a small house so not enough space, until I can get rid of the kids....

Ian, good luck with the kit it does go together well, can't wait to see your idea

That looks killer! great work on the roof and body, and a great presentation! Nicely done! I really like the rust around the wheel wells on the front fenders, very convincing!
