Marder III Ausf.M

Thanks Eric,

I am currently trying Mig's Dark Wash on an Sd Kfz 251 that I’m working on. This is the first time using this product, and so far, I don’t like it. I’m putting down a layer of mig's thinner, then applying the wash. It splotches up on me and it’s hard to get to smooth out. I then take a brush dampened with thinner and wipe the surface down. I have to do this 2 or three times to get results that I’m happy with. And I’m not putting it on heavy at all.

I feel I can get more subtle results with turpentine and oils.

I’m not putting it on a glossy surface, never had to do it with my oils. But with the mig product, I can see where it might help.

Now I love Mig’s filter for tri color cammo, That stuff is the cats meow!

Maybe I'm reading this wrong but it sounds like you are trying to use the wash as a filter. MIG Productions dark wash (P220 IIRC?) is designed to be used sparingly, around raised details and panel lines etc.

What you want to do is apply it with a small, fine brush as a pin wash around any raised detail, into seams and panels lines etc. You don't need to put down any thinner first, just flow it into these lines and around the details.

You can use a brush dampened in the thinner to clean up the excess and tide marks, take most of the thinner off so the brush is just slightly damp to remove the excess.

BTW Chris, your Marder is looking sharp bud. 8)

Thanks fella's .

Big John ....I use low odour thinners for oil paints with the AK products ,its touch dry in a few hours ,but like Erik says ,I like to let them sit until next day before moving on ,and if needed I will seal it with another coat of Klear ;).

As Ken mentioned ,Mig Dark wash should really be used for pin washes & panel lines ,its too dark to put over the whole vehicle ,and make sure you have a glossy surface before applying :)

Ken ...Thanks bud ;D

Everything is done in the right proportion... Most excellent my friend ! a treat for the eyes !!!

Looking forward to final assembly !!!

Thanks Norm ...I appreciate that fella ;)

I ran into a little problem with the ammo racks/tubes. Basically there is ment to be a strap around the top of each tube ..not supplied in the kit and Im not about to start scratching them ...just too small !

Also discovered that the ammo supplied in the kit doesnt fit in the tubes ???? ::)

So having recently found that there should be a cover over the ammo ,I thought that would be the best route to go .So trying to be a bit clever I cut up some cocktail sticks to resemble the shape of the rounds ,These were popped into the tubes then I rolled out some milliput and made a few covers ,I added a few rips & tears for a bit of interest ,and once dry I'll paint them in ....job done ;D

Looking good Chris with the use of subtle colors to add interest and move the eye around to each detail.
