next one up... i always saw these nichimo kits on ebay and was curious. looks to be somewhat of a simplistic kit , but a sharp looking ship in a good scale. looks like i will already have to deal with some knarly seams on the hull sections and bulbous. im going to do an out of OOB except for 1/200 rails and some anchor chain. maybe watertight doors if it warrants.

Now there's a builder who doesn't rest on their laurels!
Will be following this one fer sure!

made some good progress today. did a lot of sanding on the hull , built some sub assemblies , primed / painted hull above the boot. of course i couldnt resist some artistic license since the kit is on the simple side. i raided the PE bin and added some 1/350 hatches , some ladders to the back side of the turrets and missile launcher, doors to the wheelhouse. i built one radar. finally test fitted one of the superstructure modules. the decks sections are going to need some massaging. there are some strange decals that came with this .. they are "water resistant" because this model is meant to be motorized and r/c. but these decals are HORRIBLE to work with. they are mostly the nonskid paths on the decks.. not sure what im going to do down the road.

in the homestretch... i did add some 1/200 railing where railings should be , a couple of more watertight doors , ladders. did a bunch of touchup painting. i used krylon grey satin primer as the main color, so it acts a little different than the hobby acrylics. to touch up i had to spray paint into a plastic cup and go from there with a brush so i had a match. got the turrets installed. im still working on the mast assemblies. waiting on decals from china, and a coupe of aftermarket doodads. i will finish off with the main deck rail... generic 1/200 stuff. turning out to be a sleek looking vessel. i used some brass sprue off a PE sheet to cover the deck seams. once painted they will look like expansion joints. i used some 1/350 ladder and rail on the director platform.. looked right

Looking fantastic! Can't wait to see it ship shape!
I keep trying to zoom out to see more of it! :p

almost about to call this one done. ive added a 3d printed aftermarket surface radar on the upper mast , some 1/200 PE ladders and rails , used some PE sprue for antennas by the wheelhouse. installed rudders , did a bunch of touch up painting. added some 1/350 rail above the wheelhouse. ive definitely used some artistic license to make this somewhat simple kit a bit more detailed. the decals are aftermarket.. the warning circle around the missile launcher. i may do a little this and that still before she goes on the shelf like adding #D printed hose reels. the kit stand was actually impressive with its shiny "brass" pedestals , i have it gorilla glued and drying over night. i dig these oddball frigates / cruisers that have that "cold war vibe". there is hardly any subject matter out there from that period , and whats out there is mostly garbage .. very crude.

on another note... i ended up building an unplanned kit... i had ordered a tamiya hand drill that i saw on a forum someplace.. well i needed it tonight , opened the box and it was a whole kit unto itself! did not expect that, about 30 minutes and it was good... went together easily.. i give it good reviews. made easy work of what i needed to do , plus is low RPM , and pretty good torque. will be great for port holes
