So, the Memphis Bell is on hold for now.

I am very, and pleasently shocked at the quality of this kit. no flash or ejection pin marks. The date on the instructions booklet is 2019. Revell has, finally stepped up to the plate they're batting triples and home runs!
The booklet is in color and the instructions are nicely & easily described allowing the builder stress-free parts, instead of sanding, trimming filling with putty on all 131 parts. This will be my second 1/32 kit. I e ordered aftermarket cockpit switches and toggles, which has already been delivered.

I started last night with the drilling holes in the under side of the wings.

Hey Gary
I was wondering if Revell is making any newer 1/32 of American WWII aircraft. Never built any Revell since getting back in to modelling but had heard some negatives about some models manufactured in the 2005-2010 period. Is their a way to tell which kits are newer ???

Gary,
Sorry about this long hiatus. This kit is a 2019. Really nice tooling and simplistic. I feel this kit could use more fuselage and wing panels and rivet detail, the engine has alot of detail and looks great. Im waiting to get to this step. Im still working on the cockpit. The PE are typical -nice and detailed.
there are 168 parts with a level 5. I think thats as high as Revell goes.
My Revell 1/96 USS Constitution has about a bazillion parts and steps. It is currently shelved for an undetermined time. My wife got it for me at Christmas 2008.

Anyway. That's all I have at this time.

Nice pick!

I've been burned enough by Revell quality in the past, but the L4/L5s are pretty good from my limited experience.

Subscribed to see the progress, I know you'll nail it Gary.

Thank you for your interest and your kind reply.

I had some problems ran into the typical fitting issues with Revell.
I recommend using Bob Smith black CA glue. I do not recommend a clear glue.
The top control panel had huge gaps where the control panel is supposed to fit. (Sorry no Pic of the before.)
The fuselage fit together really well with the aid of tape and clamps. The glue oozed up creating a ridge. I put a paint pen down the area to work on. This helps me see where I need to sand and/or use a blade to scrape. When the paint has been sanded and the seam has gone back to the original color of the kit, then I know there isn't anymore seam and it's smooth.
The second pic of the fuselage is the work in progress.

"Good idee, mee boy!" ( a francophone aunt who spoke no English except those words!)
And if you don't mind me asking, is the BSI Xtra Strength worth it? For what situations?
Thank you.
I wish I knew my mom's grandmother. She only spoke Italian.
This is my first bottle. I didn't pay much attention to the strength. But this seems to work well.
When I was researching I found a video last year some time. The guy said that the black CA glue is made with a rubber polymer so it has a slight give to it.
I use it on parts that want to separate from each other.
I think it has mores uses for me. I also like the Gorilla CA Gel, but sometimes it can be a little brittle and crack right off the part. The black ca glue is perfect for gluing pe parts, too.
I know I'm not the best at explaining topics, sometimes. So, I hope this helps. If not, I will definitely try again.

Thanks guys, I've only one kit on the shelf of second chances, with way too much PE, so maybe I'll giv'er another shot!

I had some much PE with BB35 Battleship Texas.
Very tedious.
Here's mine, as of VERY recently.

Lots of missing bits and painting. Anything gray that is not tiny is just sitting there for now. But I am on the downhill side of things.

EDIT TO ADD:
Yes the PE was large in volume and highly delicate in nature. I had some major success and many a near disaster that still looks like...ummm...bad stuff. But the hardest parts in my experience were plastic-on-plastic, the gunner-seats on the many 5-inchers. Those were harder (IMO) than the shields of the single 20mm, by a small margin but yeah.
