Name of Build: Omega 7 Helicarrier "Columbia MkIV
Kit manufacturer: Scratch Built
Scale: 1/700
Description
Starting from a 3d model built in Google Sketchup, the Columbia Helicarrier was built up with a core of balsa.
The balsa was skinned with styrene.
Filling was done with Bondo and Squadron green putty.
The hoverfan housings came from cardboard tube and PVC pipe.
The fans themselves were cut from sheet styrene.
The fan mounts were cast from a master.
The main thrusters were made from syringe caps housed in balsa and sheet styrene.
Custom markings were printed at home onto clear decal paper
Model was given a coat of grey rattlecan primer, followed by Vallejo grey primer for much of the ship.
Windows were painted on over strips of electrical tape.
Much of the detail painting was done with line washes and a fine tipped brush
The aircraft came from Shapeways, as did the deck weapons
