SciFi- Metal Gear Solid: 1/100 Metal Gear REX

Nice update. If you have moving parts maybe you can spray diffrent coats of colors so if the paint goes of the previus coats will be visual? Like you can go like rust, silver than color dnt know just an advise:)

Thanks guys!
Cash- your idea for the paint is a good one, but honestly I'm worried about there being room for primer and topcoat, the tolerances are THAT tight. I'm going to go around the kit and lightly sand some things back I think. I've already done it with the support "talons" on the back of each leg so the pivot point has more room. I have another update video but I didn't have a chance to upload it yet.

I'm thinking of separating the subassemblies, and shooting those with a light coat of primer so I know what surfaces are showing on the final model so I don't unnecessarily paint things. I think im going to order a can of Mr Surfacer 1500, the panel lines are so fine im afraid anything else will fill them in too much once the color is on. Also I need to get a game plan for lighting.

Thanks for staying tuned!

Thanks Scott & Q!!

Build is done. Now onto planning lights and paint.

Thanks, I actually have it bookmarked already. I was going to buy the 3A one but between the price and quality control issues I decided against it. It's very impressive though!

Small update on the lighting and some rambling...

Trying to figure out the power source. I found a pic online of someone who used a CR1220 button cell battery and holder to power the 3 LED'S he had in REX'S head so I bought some holders and batteries real cheap. I'm hoping i can use one in the head for 3 leds and one in the railgun for 3 leds. Space in the railgun is really tight but I'm trying to fit everything in.

I'm pretty rusty on my electronics so if anyone has used these batteries before or knows if I'm good to go please let me know! In the pic I'm talking about it looks like he used 5mm leds, but I'm trying to use 3mm leds.

Oy, all the way on the 3rd page! Lol

Kind of related, kind of unrelated video of some new stuff I got to help with REX and some other kits! Plus ya get a good look at my messy bench :) Check it out if you'd like! Should have a proper update tonight, hoping to shoot some primer after work today!

MOAR New Stuff! Plus a quick look at the bench.: http://youtu.be/AJlG4sXWByA

Small Update, started taking REX apart and gluing and cleaning up everything. Worked on lighting just a bit and finally got some primer down. Sorry for shaky cam, it was super late and I was about to go to bed :p

Great progress so far... Regarding the fiber optics, you could wrap it in bare metal foil to help reduce bleed and increase light transmission... looking forward to more....

Nice tip! Thanks!

Quick update, let me know what you guys think I should do with the thigh pieces.

Thanks. Yea just doing it a little at a time haha. I have a feeling the battery sockets and LEDs are gonna take forever to get here :/

What are everyone's thoughts on my problem with the upper legs I mentioned in the video? Do I glue them in place or try to make room and keep the articulation?

I always go down the road of making sure a kit can be posable but I never end up reposing it once it's done. Same with lighting. Gets used maybe twice. I'd say glue 'em in place. :)
