SMA MAGAZINE ANNOUNCEMENT

Asked this on FB too: If I subscribe to the print version, but also wanted digital, is that a separate purchase?

There will be a 'combo' pack available once the App Store approves the SMA App. That will still be a while.

Should you purchase a print subscription pre-order now, you will have a rebate on the digital version, once available.

For digital we are going with PocketMags, initially with support for iPad via a custom SMA Magazine app. Digitally it will also be available, browser based, at pocketmags.com.

This process has just begun, and it takes time for Apple to approve things, but it will happen.

Along with the app and pocketmags, we will also be offering a digital 'flip book' style version, at a reduced price point. I've done testing and it works great in a browser, but on iPad the flipbook isn't perfect...therefore the reason for the app.

So with that said, I really appreicate your support with Print Subscription pre-orders and be sure that a reduced digital price, for print subscribers, will be available.

Thanks again guys. Big time.

Site is great and I'm trying to order subscription but each time I try it freezes after I put date in checkout and try to proceed.

Falls alarm. When I first created account, filled all the details and then made the subscription it all worked ok :)

Scott i love you guys but No way in hell im paying $44 for shipping for a Sub. :(

i do realize its not your fault btw :) but i may go issue by issue tough

ill definitely be springing for the digital subscription as soon as its out!

as much as i love a physical copy, i agree with spud that $44 is a little steep for shipping alone but who knows, maybe a kit will be out of stock at my LHS and ill be left with $44 to spare ;D

We do realize the shipping isn't cheap...but that's just it, it's not cheap.

We are discounting it, and absorbing some of the shipping costs for a subscription, but we are simply not a big enough company to eat it all.

And Spud, you'll be happy to know that your work is published in 01, along with the other 1st place contest winners. ;)

With that said, Ken and I both stand behind the product, and have basically staked our names on it.

6 issues of a 'fat' content rich magazine, low on ads. Plus 6 detailed video tutorials, bonus savings from Partners and four excellent columns.

The subscription is a great value and if you consider that each issue is equivalent to a 'normal' monthly magazine (content wise) it works out to $5/month.

I do appreciate the pre-order subscriptions that are coming in. Very much appreciate it.

Great news...I hope.

I know we PMed back and forth about it being available on the nook...but I also know- having contacted them about it before- that pocketmags subscriptions are only available on iPads, iTouches, and Android devices, etc-- please tell me there are ways for us nook users to grab the subscription??

Yes, we are going to also offer a Flip Book Style digital version, like the one I showed you Jeeves. It will be pricing less than the app.

This way, no iPad, or desire to go through Pocket Mags, no problem. The app will work better on the iPad though as the flipbook is a bit.....buggy on iPad. But as you've seen it works great on Nook, and a browser on Windows or Mac. It works on iPad...don't get me wrong. But since iPad doesn't support Flash, the zooming isn't perfect.

As for shipping costs, lets do some math for fun. ;D

Seeing as how it's the international rate that seems to be an issue, it would only be fair for me to look into international magazines on my side of the pond.

to subscribe to Mil Modelcraft Int. it would be £49.50 + £35.50 shipping, so that = £85.00 or $136.20

- to AFV Modeller it would be £48.50 + £35.50 shipping, so that = £84.00 or $134.60

- to Military Illustrated Modeler it would be £49.50 + £35.50 shipping, so that = £85.00 or $136.20

- SMA international subscription = â'¬80.33 or $104.00

The shipping charges above were taken right from those magazines websites and £35.50 = 45.96 US. so I would have to pay the same exact (well technically almost $2.00 more) to subscribe to them. Shipping is what shipping is, it's out of our hands and frankly, we are more than likely loosing money on some of these international subscriptions due to their location.

OHH Wow Scott that's Awesome.

is the Price in Canadian or American Dollars? if its Canadian then a sub is â'¬80. Ken i presume you ment Euro and not pound because $104 is £64.

Ken i do see your point on the costs. i just was not expecting it to be so High.

Yes, Euro sorry.

...but as you can see, those mags sent here aint cheap either. ;)
