Beginning to read a book about the Abercrombie DE343, John C. Butler class, would love to find a 1/350 of that.I like Trumpeter myself, built a few 1/350 ships of theirs, doing a Fletcher Class with square bridge now. I did a 1/350 USS Buckley and put it in a display case with a 1/350 U Boat. Buckley was a destroyer escort they used in movie "The Enemy Below" back in mid 50s. Good old WWII flick!
That was tremendous!! Thank you, looks like TrumpeterDown Time read this. May help.

I'm currently reading Little Ship, Big War. The author covered the incident quite well, became part of DE and DD training for the crews as a result of the incident.he story of USS Buckley ramming and hand to hand combat with U66

I'm on the hunt! I will find one and buy it. I am reverting to my childhood! I did The Mummy, Phantom of the Opera, and Creature from the Black lagoon, I may have done others but these stick in my mind. I think the Creature is the coolest looking, but I remember the Phantom really came out nice and was an excellent paint job for a pre teen me.

I remember putting them together quickly so I could play with them! How times have changed. As a kid I used to try painting with those Testors glass bottle enamel paints using a pant brush.
Needless to say I was always frustrated I could not get a nice brush stroke free surface like on all the kit boxes
Oh the wonders of an airbrush
That's why now it is nice to revisit those model we made a mess of when we were younger and give them a proper build
That's a really great idea, might even be better than spru gooI have discovered that by using stretched sprue and Plastic Weld applied with the Touch n Flow applicator I'm able to get solid neat joins that require little if any sanding in larger gaps. The thin Plastic Weld glue melts the plastic really well. Thin gaps can be easily be closed using this glue and applicator which is a must when using Alclad that shows every imperfection under the metallic paint.
Dod you receive the Academy kit and how is it going with it?
