Hello kind sires,

I have a rotary tool in my workshop/office and I'm interested in getting initiated in wood carving. I don't have any reference about it, but searching online had give me some ideas where to start. So I decided to make carvings on small wood boxes and some cheap coasters, I bought some carbon paper to transfer the models to the wood and start carving. I also have a small sheet of plywood, for cuting smaller pieces from it and exerxice with them first, instead of ruining the boxes while learning.

The problem I'm facing is that I don't know how to use the router bits, and what should I buy, a bought blindly some router bits from Amazon, and now I would like to buy some more because I've missed out on some important ones that I think can make my job easier.

So please, if there are any colleagues that do wood carving or use a rotary tool, can you please give me some advice on what sould I buy. And point me, if you will to some resources online that can help me learn more about wood carving?

Thank you and I wish you all a nice day.

Personally, what little I have done is with an 'older' Dremel Flexshaft [not the one's of today] and quality HS Steel cutting bits; never 'hog' the cuts [IE heavy or alot of pressure on the Dremel] and make sure your speed is high-enough to cut the wood [don't tear thru it]. Foredom's flexshafts are of a higher quality and power range [or used to be...]. Also Proxxon's line is nice [for miniature or small work in wood]. This is all going on the premise of small or model scale wood working type projects. And 'yes' AMAZON does have some decent offerings on quality cutting bits, as does eBay, and other outlets - Just shop around and research. And if you've got a decent or good wood-working store, in your neck-of-the-woods, go down and pick their brain, for what they've recommend. -Hope this helps some.
