Hi all

My friend has asked me to build a model of his favourite tank on World of Tanks, the T-34 as below

As he is going to have this on top of his PC whilst he plays the game I thought I would try a 1/48 kit, a scale i've never tried before. I went with the Hobby Boss T34-76, not a perfect match to his tank but close enough.

Firstly the kit, and what a kit it is. I really rate Hobby Boss kits but this one is absolutely awesome, one of the best kits I've built. It comes with full interior, suspension, engine, transmission the lot (shame most of it won't be in show!) And the detail would be excellent in 1/35 never mind 1/48 and the best thing is it cost £10! thats the usual sale price not an offer too.

I built the kit OOB, just changing a few details to match the WOT pictures

The only detail that wasn't present on the T-34 was the cast texture on the turret

So I got busy with some Revell plastic glue and and old brush I keep for this purpose and created the texture

I painted up the interior before sealing the lid

Then sprayed the different shades masking in between with blutack.

It's a bit bright at the moment but after a few filters it should tone it down a bit

I can see myself building a few more 1/48 kits in the future!

Thanks for looking

Nice job replicating the in-game vehicle. A long time ago I used to play an online game called WW2Online...and wanting to model the tanks in that game that I 'drove' around the countryside of Western Europe is what got me started building armor. Things haven't been the same since. :)

WOW this 1/48 scale kit packs the details. Very impressive kit. Looks like it comes with PE as well. Great job on the build of this kit. Very clean.

how much do you get with this kit its amazing and the work you've done is just as good superb work

Cheers guys

This kit is awesome, unfortunately I don't think the other hobby boss 1/48 kits have the full interior, this is a scaled down version of their 1/16 kit apparently.

Really cool kit though

Packs a big punch it does... Iam impressed with this scale and the job you have done.

Cool! Never heard of the Revel Glue and Toothbrush trick, good idea! Could you explain the technique mate? And did you only do it on the turret?

Hi John

It's dead simple, just put plastic glue on the part, leave it on 30-60 seconds to soften the plastic and then I use a cheap paintbrush with the bristles cut right down and tab at it till you get the look you want. it can go a bit stringy sometimes on some plastics, but it can be sanded back lightly when dry. I also try and avoid any detail I want to keep, just work around them.

I know you can get Mr surfacer and the like, but for the amount of occasions I would use it it's just another expense and I find this technique works well for me. I didn't apply to the rest of the tank as the T34 turrets often have a heavily cast texture, which was missing in this kit

I also got this baby finished, I applied some oil layers, especially yellow on the lighter green colour as I wasn't happy with the tone painted in all the details and all sorted

I think its replicates the WOT example pretty well and hopefully my friend thinks the same!

I also think I might have to buy another of these kits, I fancy making a destroyed version of it so the interior can be fully on show.

Thanks for stopping by
