AMT ERTL Millennium Falcon Build

So the weekend saw me get some cans of Tamiya AS-20 and repaint the falcon

I also lopped off the cockpit bezel and will be replacing that with one from Shapeways.

I like the Insignia White so much better than my first attempt

Yeah the insignia white seams to be just the right hue... Rather annoying that it only comes in spray cans. Then again I've heard that 1 part buff to 4 parts white should do the job.

New cockpit huh? It's actually not that for off in dimensions... The length of the tube is tho... Cutting it right after the grill will get you to the right shape.

Anyway, kinda jealous seeing this thing all together.

Well, After 11 months and 2 days I'm finally calling this one done.

It's not the most fancy one out there in the galaxy, but this is my hunk of junk.;)
The first model started in over 30 years, and the first one that I've ever tried lights and weathering on.

I've got a looooooong way to go with my weathering skills, just lucky I've got another 13 Falcons in my stash to get it right.... :D
I'm more than happy to take pointers, advice and yes, even a little criticism because it's through these things I learn better ways of doing this.:)

That looks great man, we can always learn more! That mindset takes you further than anything else.

"I haven't tried that before...
So I can probably do it!"

Tamiya's Insignia White in a rattle can? They began selling this lacquer paint in a glass bottle. It's called Tamiya LP-35 Insignia White. It's also essentially the same as Mr. Color 316, although that is a gloss paint.

Hmm... I hadn't noticed. I'll check it out.

Thank you for pointing it out.

Loved reading your build. A great result.

I've started wiring up the Mandible lights and the lights for the lading gear bays.

Good-day. You're doing a great job with the model.
I recognized the vice instantly. I still use mine since 1980.
The other one is handmade too.

LMAO, Well done brother. Yours looks like its been well loved...
I like the big one too.

You could see mine was an '87 model
Went on to grow up to be an Instfitt
Instfitt, me too. Spent all my remaining 6 yrs at 2AD, half the time in the cleanroom.

About my vice. I would say that it was used/abused more than most others. It is now worn and no longer clamps square and even. In fact, it is now more often used for holding another vice; holding one handle/side of a pair of surgical clamps. I find these work much better than alligator clips.

The other vice was made from a broken G-clamp, and the jaws from broken files. It is my main vice. Though it is heavy, I often clamp it to the worktable to keep it steady when hacksawing metal.

Anyway, keep up the good works, and imagination with your creativity... it's good for the mind and soul.

Peter.
