Have managed to get some of the seams filled and sanded but still a way to go yet.I decided to have a go at one of these just for a change. It's a very old kit and it shows, mould marks, creases in the deck and hull. Got the feeling that this is going to be the same for every part.
Great fun this hobby. Better order a container load of filler and sanding sticks.... Pantherman

Got the new trim fitted and have started cleaning up the hull defects. Starting to look a little bit better now. PanthermanHave managed to get some of the seams filled and sanded but still a way to go yet.
I decided to add a thin trim to the side as some photos I was looking at showed this to be fairly prominent and the revell detail is a bit thin and sort of fades away at the bow.
Also done a bit more of the deck.View attachment 116823View attachment 116824View attachment 116825

And just noticed the mould marks on the stand...... this kit has them everywhere. Going to have to redo the stand as it will drive me nuts knowing it's there. PanthermanGot the new trim fitted and have started cleaning up the hull defects. Starting to look a little bit better now. Pantherman

I do know the feeling......That's me..... PM
Almost every single part has horrendous mould ejection marks on it. It seems the smaller the part, the bigger the mark.I decided to have a go at one of these just for a change. Thanks Tim. PMI do that all the time. Look at a picture of my work and see something I missed.
BTW I really like the trim pieces. Really makes the edge stand out. Nice job
Little bit more done and it's starting to come together now. Also redone the stand. PanthermanGot the new trim fitted and have started cleaning up the hull defects. Starting to look a little bit better now. Pantherman

Revell 1/72 scale. Thanks for the info. Deck is black/green with black, grey/blue and green/gray camo. Just went with a hull red that I use as a base coat on armour. PanthermanWatching this with much interest.
588 was a Class103 Elco 80ft, and that belt strip is a flat/wide strip of wood.
Imagine a 1"x3" the full length of the boat.
There is another just below the deck overhang.
588 was one of the last Elcos built, and had many new gadgets.
Its also one of the very few that had rocket launchers up front.
I also do a paper model of the ELCO 80ft, and offer a few conversions. But not PT588.
What scale is this?
My paper kit is 1/48 scale, about 20" long.
What colour will you paint? These were issued to the Navy in Gray (with red oxide lower).
Many were painted green and some in camo by the boat crew themselves.
Then, there were the many disruptive camos.

Not overly happy with the red, it's just a little bit too dark. Should be OK as a base for a crimson red over the top so I'll have a go at that tomorrow after work. PanthermanLittle bit more done and it's starting to come together now. Also redone the stand. Pantherman

Thanks, that's very helpful. PanthermanI can't remember the original source I used for the lower hull coating, but this is the colour:

For reference, in case it is of any help to you...
I have a few photos of PT588, and this appears to be paint scheme.
These patterns were applied by the crews, so there were inconsistencies in design and exact colour, but this is the plan they were given by the Navy.

Got a bit of painting started but definitely needs more work. Got the deck glued to the hull which was a real pain as the deck was severely bowed. Think I got it fitted OK in the end. PanthermanLittle bit more done and it's starting to come together now. Also redone the stand. Pantherman
