1:48 scale kits are getting too pricey!

For me the kits are getting pretty pricey although the detail overall is much better than years ago. I've actually avoided the hyper detail enhancements on a few kits just to determine how well it comes out. It was fun and came out respectable. It felt like I was 15 years old again.

    Copperheads

OK, I partially own 100 acres in Kentucky and it's loaded with Copperheads. Nothing to mess with and no warning to strike. Snake boots and/or cold weather are my requirements before hiking through there. Good luck.

    Sourcing Gloster Gladiator Decals

The decals in question arrived in today's mail. Well packaged in a very thick envelope in a zip-loc with double sided instructions for multiple applications. Quality looks to be very nice, well done. 6 days, start to finish from Canada. Very satisfied.

Did you happen to try 90% alcohol on the Tamilya Acrylic paints?

I think $150-175 should be enough for what I'm looking for. As I said, I missed one a couple years ago at a large plastics shop for $150, he had several although since it's a distance from me, I was on the wrong end of my regular monthly shop tours and missed it. While I have an original one on...

    paint

Paint seems to be a somewhat volatile subject here. While I'm old school and started with brushed enamels and slowing moved towards spray cans, I still like to know the chemical breakdown of any product I'm using. I probably killed way too many brain cells when I was kid spray painting my models...

    Foil?

Thanks for the tip. I do have a larger Hobby Lobby nearby. Next time I'm on that side of town, I'll check them out.

Thanks for the link, Too rich for my blood, especially for a partially built, possibly incomplete kit with broken parts and unsealed, damaged box. Something seems odd with the box, I don't remember some of the graphics or decals, perhaps a second release?? I built the original in 1970 and it's...

I'm looking for a MPC "Then Came Bronson" 1/8 scale Motorcycle kit. Preferably a un-built, sealed kit although open to perhaps a un-sealed, complete kit. Will pay a fair price. TIA, G.

1:48 scale kits are getting too pricey!

Local hobby shops are a treasure. I had a shop nearby although the owner and his Wife closed it upon retirement a couple years ago. Not a huge place although it had the basics and more. I can't say I've come across any online place that's quick to ship. My best option is a large shop although...

    Less Toxic Option

I've been using the first of the two you've mentioned for a couple years. It's very low in odor, seems to attach well with a good fit. The bottle states non-toxic although on their website It doesn't. I e-mailed them concerning this although never received a reply. I also use their putty and...

    Foil?

I've an old Inpact airplane kit on the shelf and in doing research on the real item, discovered the fuselage is a mix of painted fabric and polished aluminum. Seems like a good candidate for the use of aluminum foil. How is it attached to the plastic? Does the plastic have to be bare or can it...

How do you pros prevent paint from running under masking tape?

I've used the technique on canopies where you brush on the paint, let dry and use a round tooth pick, nipped at a 45 degree angle and rub off the overage. Seems to work reasonably well. I just did a canopy in a Flat Aluminum I mixed up with Acrylics. Take your time and don't press real hard to...

ready to throw away the testors "orange tube"

I've used the Testors orange and white tube although wanted to get into more of a non-toxic product. Tried the Testors NT item and while I could make it work in certain conditions, I found it difficult to work with overall. A few years back while looking for a NT glue, I discovered a UK product...

    Mixing for a Copper color

That looks very authentic, thanks for the pic. The color I need is for a pair of exhaust pipes on a Gloster Gladiator. In my mind this would look comparable to what you've done with heat effect, discoloring and possible moisture markings. I had a bottle of this although discovered it was pretty...
