patience pays off...

BIG TIME! cockpit done and well detailed, seat features dry brushed aluminom paint for a warn paint and metal look, as if the seat has been used a thousand times as it has, and the floor boards painted flat black, also wear through showing the natrual wood the mustangs floor was made of... you cannot see it, but the rudder pedals also painted flat black have also warn to metal in spots, this camera just does not due justice... the cockpit looks very nice, i am very pleased with the results.

then as i continue my build throught the afternoon, things go well... until i hit the frame construction for the engine cowl... and it all goes south... hors of tedious careful work, and poor fitting parts throw everything out the window. it is not a complete disaster, beacuse i will be able to finish the aircraft, but i am very discouraged, i will not be able to show the aircrafts engine, the engine cowls have been permanently glued in place... it is the only way they stay on, i had to use the shrouded exhaust... the un shrouded does not fit... i began to get greatly discouraged, all the countless hours on the engine, the carful planning paintng, the spark plug wires, all amounted now too nothing, i decided now was a good time to stop, and continue another day. :'(

however, the airplane is not a loss by any means, the only downside here is the engine cannot be shown, a little seam fill work, a little sanding, and i think it will look fine, you guys can still see the cockpit, which in my opinion looks just as good, if not better than the enigne.

i will keep you posted, here are some pictures of my progress, the airplane is still far from finished... it will be a week or more before its completion.

Playing a little catch-up here, since I was off all day yesterday!! Really going to town on this ACE!!!

Patience is the key my friend!!! It is a shame the engine will be unseen, but you know it was done!!! Always better to step back and take a breather no and then...clear the cobwebs and come back to it!!! Rested eyes see things a lot better!!! Your getting there....keep it rolling!! ;)

Ace!
I feel your pain!
:(
I have done similar things.....Painted excruciating details....that end up never being seen, HOWEVER, You have shown all of us that great engine work, we have seen it, appreciated it, and were impressed. You know it's in there, WE know it's in there....That may not be consolation enough, but better than no-one EVER seeing all the hard work you did on it! ;D
My heart broke a little bit for ya when I read your post about gluing the cowling on.....

You are tearing this build up! I mean going through it quickly!
Don't get discouraged!
If there is a bogie on your 6, we'll handle it!!!!!
;D ;D ;D

Ace I thought the frame used magnets to hold the cowling parts in place? Didn't they work? I just haven't heard of any fit issues on this kit yet. Sorry to hear your troubles.

yea... i never heard of issues too, but i was having them, the way it was coming together... it is supposed to be heald in place by magnets, but the frame construction was a horrible fit for some reason... and with my spark plug wires i could only go for shrouded exhaust... everything ells comes together great though... with patience and time, this will be a fine peace.
