DIORAMA FOR A FRIEND

Ya, that's one thing I remember, don't try pouring to much at once if you want some depth, go in layers.
Going to have any boats?

It took me a moment to spot the resin at all :) Are you going to tint it to give the impression of muddy water a little, or keep it completely clear?

First time working with the stuff, maybe I'll add a surface texture.

I'd at least try adding some translucent paint to the surface, else the water will look so clear nobody will believe it's supposed to represent a river ;)

Good advice, but if the water will have visibility from the side (as I see many displays have) the opaque grime will have to be added to the resin.

In that case I would really add either wave texture or colour to the surface (or both), because otherwise, the resin will be hard to see. If it would have "open" sides it would be more obvious, but with the sides enclosed many viewers might not realise there's water there at all.

I'll play.....

Water effect is done to the best of my novice ability, not perfect, but some surface texture. My Wife managed to kick up some dust while it was setting. GRRRR..... Anyways I can work with it, surface debris and such.
Now it can be moved to the new house.

Well-poured, no bubbles etc. that I can see, but I do feel the photos illustrate my point quite well: if it wasn't for the glare from the overhead light and the line where the "water" hits the shore, you can hardly see it's there at all.

I'm going to try a wash, greenish gray in a spot under the docks, see how that looks

Well, minor tragedy, the weight of the resin pulled the warehouse and pier out of plumb. I had to remove the warehouse and destroy the "foundation" I built underneath.
Now to rework that area flat.
