Enterprise D - from "Generations"

Man, this is absolutely wicked! Can't wait to see how the aztec paneling is going to turn out!
But already sure it would look mind-blowing! ;)

Saw this over on the RI forum and it's amazing the amount of time and effort you've put into this awesome build. Can't wait to see the finished product.

Not to be too far off topic, but that enterprise E is absolutely gorgeous. You did an amazing job on it.

Cheers mate, took a long time to mask and paint her too...I seem to like torturing myself with diffcult masking/paint jobs!! ::) Worth it in the end though ;)

Cheers again for the kind comments everyone. I've had a break from this build and gave my '89 Batmobile an overhaul which was a nice change of pace! Sod the seams, have a laugh sticking the parts together and throw paint straight from the can! :)

I'm starting to gather up more steam for the 'D' again now though, the masking work is really long-winded and is definately testing my patience - I might just throw wallpaper decals over the rest of her...only joking!
I'll get back to it in the next couple of days and should have some new stuff to show soon.

Cheers guys

Re: Enterprise D - from "Generations" - UPDATED 8/2/12

Finally gathered up enough steam to get back onto this after hitting the wall, just needed to forget about complex masking etc and just stick some plastic together for once! So, after a “cleansing” Batmobile and Bat-Pod, I got back to masking the lower secondary hull. Not finished yet, still got the undersides of the pylons to go over

Then it was back to mapping the upper saucer main pattern

Decided to change tactics with masking the saucer. I'm reversing the order that the lighter colours are going to be sprayed so rather than masking off the lightest layer and laying down the darker buff/tan over the top, the darker colour has been sprayed first. The appropriate masks will be cut and layed down, then the lighter colour will go down. This will make it a lot easier to “sync” the patterns when physically putting on the masks, and reduce the risk of mis-positioning the smaller ones (which was a problem on the secondary hull and nacelles)

So thats where i'm at right now, gonna be a one trick pony for a while with all this masking but I'll get there in the end!

Cheers for the good comments guys, thanks for following along

Clearly your not feeling right. With all that masking you must be sick. Try any one of these in as many you can chug down in one swallow.

OMG I've seen som mad things but that masking is insane. There is a reason I don't do these kits

Mad like a fox!

I imagine after you're finished you'll be mapping out Data's positronic brain! I think you might just be the real Noonian Soong. ;D

The care and attention you're taking with this masking is tremendous! Keep up the great work and you're gonna have one of the best Enterprise's out there!

You are one crazy nutter doing all that masking. But I'll bet you'll feel all the prouder once you see the final result.

my heart goes out to you man!!! you really must be related to dr soong to keep your sanity after this so far!

Haha! Cheers guys. Yeah, i'm feeling my grip on reality loosening up after staring at all this yellow tape for so long! Anywho, some more progress to show, more of the same i'm afraid but we're getting there!

Excuse me for being the dolt in the group but how wide is that roll of masking tape your using? Or are you just laying strips across your cutting mat giving us the unintentional illusion of poster board size tape?

Are you drawing those lines with a lilac pencil with a fluffy pink ball on the end? I'm worried about you. ;D

Soong, this is great work. And I'd also like to know if it's possible to get masking tape that wide!

I usually don't hang out in the SCI-FI section but it's nice to take a walk now and then......WOW, sir you have some serious patience and a love for what you do!! Excellent work!! Looking forward to the completed version!!! ;D

I've certainly got to hand it to you for the persistence a masking job like that has got to require!!
