Hello everyone. I hope everyone is having a good start to the new year. Putting together a group build for any and all interested, and as the title suggest, it is open to all warships of WWII era in any scale. Mark2 and myself have selected our models for this build. All are welcome to join in for a casual group build, there is no set time for completion and progression of the builds can be kept here or a separate thread can be posted and linked here to be followed along. We will probably kick off the group build in about a week or so, allowing time to gather everything needed to start building.

I hope anyone interested will join in and have fun. Happy modeling.

Everyone participating in this group build, please take a moment to confirm and list the scale and warships you will be building. A few of us are still gathering materials, so there is still time to jump in if you'd like.

Official launch date is tentatively 24 January if that works for everyone. If not, please suggest a start date that works best for everyone. I hope I'm not stepping and any toes considering I'm new around here, but I'm just excited about a new build, a new year, and a great new place to share the modeling hobby.

Thanks Mark. I was reconsidering my build to a BB, but decided to remain steadfast on the cruiser. I've been wanting to build this one for a long time.

So it will be the Academy 1/350 USS Indianapolis along with the Pontos Models Advanced upgrade which includes brass and resin 5" 25 guns, bofors, 20mm double mounted, as well as full deck metal plating and wood forward deck. A lot of goodies throughout.

I'll also add some extras from the two Eduard PE sets for the Academy kit. Along with Flyhawk portholes set.

There are a ton of small brass for this kit, so having some extras will be good for me incase I get some of those tweezer shooters that look for a new home in the carpet in another room...lol.

Oh no! I just happen to have a new kit in the closet, well an old kit from Trumpeter in 1/350, but new to me!

I've never done a GB, are there rules, dealines, deliverables?

(the above comment seals it in my mind...I'm READY to retire)

I think everyone in on the GB will be starting their builds this Friday the 24th. Other than that, you can build any WWII warships in any scale and OOB or with detail aftermarket sets. There's no completion date, just keep the progression post going.

You can post your build here, or start a new thread on your build and just link it here so others can follow and know it's part of this GB.

I have one ship kit in my stash. Only one. This might be the time to get into it. I could use some of your advice and suggestions.

Circa late 1960's or early 1970's kit.

I want to build it for my best friend - since childhood. His dad had this kit for decades and I used to ooh and awe over it when I was, well, about 10 years old. A couple years ago my friend's dad passed away and he gave me this kit because he knows that I still build plastic kits. I want to build it for my friend to put on his fireplace mantle in remembrance. It may be too deep for a group build.

Be well. Model on.

The good old Nichimo 1/200 scale Yamato! I had one of those about 15 years ago. I had big plans for it, but an RC friend wanted bigger plans, so I sold it to him. Man do I wish I would have kept it. Depending how you want to build it, there will be some modifications you'll have to make, but will be happy to give suggestions along the way if you need them.

Maybe I should start another thread for this kit Nichimo Yamato build. With all due respect, It probably deserves that.

Never mind.
Absolutely, and I apologize if my reply was insensitive, I didn't see the last part of your original post about how you received the kit and that it would be a tribute build. Condolences to your friend for his loss.

That would be fine. It's great to have as many of us with a wide variety of warships going that we can all enjoy watching and learning throughout the progress. No real rules other than the subject matter being a WWII era warship in any scale and progress post/threads being made to showcase the builds.

Edbert,
Have you decided what color scheme you will do on your Texas?
I am undecided but leaning on Measure 22.

Alas, I've been working (in fits and starts) on the I Love Kit 1/350 Enterprise (could there BE a more historic WWII ship?). But I'm fairly well along at this point, having installed the hanger deck bulkheads, so I don't think it would qualify here. But looking forward to seeing everyone else's!

Michael
