Holiday Traditions

What part of the UK are you in? I was stationed at RAF Mildenhall from 1976-1979.

That's about a 2 hour drive away I'm in south London, Wallington,just outside Croydon.

Things have changed a lot lately, but when I was younger it was Christmas tradition for much of the wider family to gather at my parents house on Xmas day. The men & boys would get out of the way (conveniently to the local pub) while the ladies prepared the big meal, passing on their knowledge to the younger girls.

I truly miss the days when I was young and the whole family got together for Thanksgiving and Christmas. It was a spectacular affair full of food, laughs and wonderful memories. Sadly those days are gone. It's just a few of us now. My wife usually has to work on the holidays so we are relegated to being at home. We do plan family Christmas in January as it's easier for everyone to get time off then. It is nice and fun but it's still only a shadow of what used to be.

Go to/ Travel to a different country each year or so, unless we have to really save up a lot to get there.

WELL my wife jen an i live in norfolk uk an i like to do a lot of modeling while my jen does her dioamon art pictures an at xmas she does all the cookin an i have a nice time watchin laurel an hardy to have a laugh an then in the eve over to the inlaws an jens sisters as i dont have hardly any family now as im a penshioner but my jen is ten yrs younger than me so she still has her 97yrs young mother to see an her sis/s

Yukimajo said it best. I agree completely. I always retreat from the world and just enjoy the peace (and presumed safety) with my family.

We start on Thanksgiving and watch Planes, Trains, and Automobiles the best Thanksgiving movie of all time. Then we watch a different Christmas movie every day up to Christmas. The day is spent just the wife and I being thankful for the birth of our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ. The rest of the family is scattered all over the country so it's just us. We make phone calls to our scattered family members. We do have a nice meal but nothing traditional, we don't even do Turkey on Thanksgiving being just the two of us, it's just too much so it's usually a nice steak. No tree, but a few decorations. We stopped exchanging gifts a while back, not much either of us want or need anymore. We just joined a new church so it will be nice to find out what kind of Christmas service they may have. Merry Christmas to all and to all a good night.
