Mercury 9

Awesomely awesome awesomesauce!
Yes, I concur with Igard, I couldn't believe that command center!!!
Excellent stuff. And I couldn't believe how quickly you got there, and then I read that your vids are about a month behind, and then I knew!
;) ;D

Very impressive work with the LED lighting for the Mercury 9. I like how you explain the in detail each LED and circuit function. I am studying your videos closing because someday I would like to add that level of detail to one of my sci-fi projects. Your diorama is going to be ASTRONOMICAL!!! I am looking forward to see this complete.

The command center has a printed film for a back drop, so what you are seeing is actually a photo, reduced in size and scale to fit. It is back lite with three super piranha LED's. It is even bright in daylight. So if the room is dark it glows. I used the same sort of film on some of the smaller windows as well. But they are not in this pic.

The command center took almost as long as the Mercury 9 did....

Thank you all for the nice comments, here is the next update. These segments were taken about May 15th, so I am getting closer to caught up. The next video will be dated May 25th and is after the honeymoon. In that one I start up on the base.

Mercury 9 part 8: You guessed it....Seams

You'll get those seams down in no time, John.
After all, you are THE MAN who beat Seamzilla last year

Very TRUE!!! You are the man for the job John. ;D

Heck, John made a diorama in an ungodly amount of time last year. He will certainly beat seams even though it may seem [eh, lame word usage here] difficult!

Loved the video John, and the lighting is absolutely gorgeous.

I'm catching up with your late progress, and I can definetely say it is a great one, G!
Especially liked how You've maped the overall disposition for the dio- this is definetely going to be something unbelievable, can't wait to see it coming together.

Good stuff John,
even though you are the seam master....they still seem to be your arch-nemesis!
Once I get my pan-dimensional saucer craft up and running, I will come down and help you fight the good fight! :)
I kinda wish I had some videos of my IRON CLAD build.

Ooooooo....Alclad steel on that big beast! COOL! Can't wait to see that sitting amongst the dio. Streetlights?...Awesome!! Caught your vids on youtube G, and the base you have laid up looks fantastic. I must say, I'm very excited to see this one all finished and lit up!! Lovely work! Carry on sir.

Oh, just curious G, when would this scene be taking place (i.e. 50's, 60's ......present day??) Merc 9 has a somewhat retro look to it methinks.

Nice job on that Rocket BG ! Didn't know they are producing ABS kits ??? weird ? did you have to use Plastrux ABS cement ??? or C.A. to bound this baby together ???

You seem to love experimenting with ALCLAD II !!! looking forward to the End results !

and that High Mountain trip... looks like a nice place !

Keep up the good work...

NICE catch on those Hole punches... (pinkies) but useful ! beats paying a 100$ for the real thing ! you can replace those for quite some time before you get 100$

Later my man !

Norm.

Is that Colorado? Wherever it is, it's amazing scenery.

Cool experiment with the Alclads.

And now I need to look for those hole punches. No way am I paying the prices asked for the punch and die sets out there.

Looking forward to more vids! 8)

Thanks Mike, The seams have been vanquished and I am on to the base now.

Yep, she got Alclad steel as a base color. As for a time period, well, I will have an c-130 and a mv-22, and a couple of M1A1's running about, so I think it is a bit on the modern side....

Norm: They are using a mixture of ABS and Styrene. Just enough styrene so that tamiya cement works, but glue like ambroid pro weld won't.

The scenery was Colorado.....trail ridge road. And when I saw the hole punches at the hobby shop I thought to myself, for that price I can try it. If it doesn't work, the wife can use them for her work, so no loss.

You're showing nice progress with this, John.
Can't wait to see her come together

Thanks and here is the next update:

Mercury 9 part 11: Engine cans and base....

I know I cannot possibly post all of the videos between now and then end of the contest, so I might switch to photos for now.

Very interesting results with the masking fluid.

Fantastic work on the base!

The more videos, the better. If you have the time to edit and upload them, we'll find the time to watch them. :)
