Began with Vallejo Leather brown for the large pad on the door and sides around the cockpit interior. It hand painted very well with a 20/0 round and various-sized flats.
Added a bit of Vallejo Bronze and Tamiya Medium Blue, the latter of which didn't work for beans. It now looks worn so that's ok.
Next I did a few passes with AK's Wash for NATO Tanks. I just recently acquired that one and boy it's the jam!
Doesn't look bad...looks like grime. You might be safter with a gloss coat before washes so you can slide stuff around the way you want too. Satin at least.
I'm still learning when it comes to washes and weathering but I'd agree with Scott, a gloss coat before washes helps a ton. It's a lot easier to remove excess when there's a gloss coat, you can still do it with satin coat but not as well tho.
If you don't at least put a Satin coat the washes will absorb into your paint much differently...staining it differently. That satin (or gloss) allows you to work the washes much easier. matte or satin once happy...but not over pigments really cuz it will hide/kill much of any pigment stuff you do.
I would imagine that the AK wouldn't have chewed up the Alclad on its own. That being said I pretty much stick to Future for gloss coats and Vallegjo for MATT coats.
In terms of how to fix the leg... Maybe a few scratches, chips, pigment...
